Job Description
Our Calgary based client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Tax Associate with proven public practice experience to join their growing team. The Senior Tax Associate will be responsible for preparing a diverse portfolio of Canadian tax returns and providing technical guidance on complex tax matters.
This position requires a strong technical foundation in corporate, personal, trust, estate, and partnership taxation, alongside a solid understanding of intercompany transactions, related party rules, and foreign affiliate reporting. Key Responsibilities
- Tax Compliance & Review: Prepare and review corporate (T2), personal (T1), partnership (T5013), trust (T3), and estate tax returns.
- Accounting & Assurance: Prepare compilation financial statements, ensuring absolute completeness, accuracy, and compliance with professional standards.
- Technical Analysis: Analyze and apply complex tax rules regarding associated corporations and related party transactions.
- International & Intercompany Tax: Manage intercompany reporting for clients with foreign subsidiaries, including detailed reconciliation and foreign affiliate compliance.
- Tax Advisory: Proactively identify tax planning opportunities and formulate strategic recommendations for clients.
- CRA Representation: Assist with CRA audit support, including drafting technical responses and directly liaising with the CRA.
- Quality & Standards: Complete all required internal checklists and documentation in strict accordance with firm policies and professional standards.
- Knowledge Leadership: Ensure ongoing compliance with current tax legislation and maintain up-to-date knowledge of evolving tax laws.
Required Qualifications
- Education & Designation: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. A Canadian CPA designation is highly preferred.
- Public Practice Experience: Minimum of 2 to 3 years of recent experience within a Canadian public accounting firm environment.
- Technical Breadth: Demonstrated proficiency in preparing complex tax returns across multiple diverse entity types.
- Accounting Depth: Strong accounting background with a robust understanding of Canadian tax law. Hands-on knowledge of foreign affiliate rules is considered a strong asset.
- Technology Proficiency: High proficiency using industry software such as CaseWare, Taxprep, and QuickBooks.
- Core Competencies: Excellent analytical, organizational, and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills necessary for effective client interaction and internal team collaboration.
