Position Summary:
Hillwood’s Corporate Tax Department is seeking a Senior Tax Accountant to join its growing team in Dallas, TX. Reporting to the Tax Director, this role plays a critical part in supporting the tax compliance and planning functions across a complex portfolio of partnerships, primarily within real estate and related investments. This individual will be responsible for the preparation and review of partnership tax returns, supporting quarterly estimates and projections as well as executing on technical tax research and special projects.

This position offers exposure to sophisticated entity structures and transaction activity, as well as the opportunity to contribute to process improvements and operational efficiencies within the tax function.
Responsibilities:
Tax Compliance and Reporting:
- Prepare and review legal entity tax workpapers, including:
- Book-to-tax income statement and balance sheet adjustments
- Book and tax basis capital account rollforwards
- Book and tax basis property rollforwards
- M-1 reconciliations and summary of book-to-tax differences
- Prepare and review federal partnership income tax returns (Form 1065) and related state income/franchise tax filings using CCH Axcess.
- Extract and analyze general ledger data at the legal entity level to identify tax-sensitive accounts and transactions.
- Respond to tax notices and support resolution with various tax jurisdictions.
Tax Provisions, Estimates and Planning:
- Calculate and project book-to-tax differences for annual compliance, quarterly estimates, and forecasting processes.
- Compute quarterly and annual estimated tax liabilities.
- Support tax projections and budgeting processes, including variance analysis.
Real Estate and Fixed Asset Tax Analysis:
- Apply capitalization and cost recovery rules related to construction-in-progress and fixed assets.
- Perform depreciation and amortization calculations and projections.
- Analyze equity movements and ensure compliance with partnership agreements, including capital account maintenance and allocation provisions.
Process Improvement and Special Projects:
- Identify opportunities to improve and automate tax compliance processes, particularly around integration with general ledger systems.
- Support implementation of process efficiencies and documentation of workflows.
- Lead or contribute to special projects and ad hoc tax research initiatives.
- Assist with workflow management and prioritization across compliance cycles.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Strong understanding of GAAP versus tax accounting concepts, with the ability to clearly communicate differences to internal stakeholders.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Proactive, self-directed work style with the ability to operate both independently and collaboratively.
- Strong data management capabilities, including the ability to work with large data sets and identify key insights.
- Interest in process improvement and leveraging technology to enhance efficiency.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and tax software platforms (CCH Axcess and Workpaper Manager preferred).
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting; CPA strongly preferred.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of relevant experience in public accounting ideally with a focus on partnership taxation.
- Experience related to federal and state partnership tax issues required.
- Knowledge of real estate and construction accounting practices preferred.
