Our client, a respected and rapidly expanding public accounting firm in the Columbus area, is seeking a Senior Tax Accountant / Tax Manager to join their dynamic team. Key Responsibilities
Tax Compliance & Advisory
- Prepare and review complex individual, corporate, partnership, S-Corporation, trust, and nonprofit tax returns.
- Research federal, state, and local tax regulations and apply them to client situations.
- Identify tax planning strategies, deductions, and credits that maximize client value.
- Assist clients with tax projections, estimated payments, and year-round planning.
- Review tax work prepared by junior staff and ensure accuracy and compliance.
Client Relationship Management
- Serve as a trusted advisor and primary contact for assigned clients.
- Build long-term relationships through exceptional service and proactive communication.
- Respond to client inquiries, IRS notices, and state tax correspondence.
- Participate in client meetings and assist with onboarding new engagements.
- Identify opportunities to expand services and add value for clients.
Leadership & Mentorship
- Mentor and coach staff accountants while supporting their technical and professional growth.
- Review workpapers and tax returns to maintain the firm's quality standards.
- Assist with training initiatives and staff development programs.
- Help manage workflow, deadlines, and staffing during busy seasons.
- Foster a positive, collaborative team culture.
Process Improvement & Practice Growth
- Recommend improvements to internal processes and workflow efficiencies.
- Assist with implementation of new tax technology and software solutions.
- Participate in strategic initiatives that support firm growth.
- Support business development through networking, referrals, and community involvement.
- Contribute innovative ideas that enhance the client experience and operational excellence.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- Master's degree in Taxation or Accounting is a plus.
- Active CPA license preferred; CPA candidates actively pursuing certification are encouraged to apply.
- Additional credentials such as EA, CMA, or MST are a plus.
- 3–6+ years of public accounting tax experience.
- Experience preparing and reviewing individual and business tax returns.
- Strong knowledge of federal and state tax regulations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Office Suite.
- Experience with UltraTax, QuickBooks, and tax practice management software preferred.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while delivering exceptional client service.
