POSITION: Senior Property Accountant

SUMMARY: The Senior Property Accountant is responsible for the accounting, financial reporting, reconciliations, and close process for a portfolio of affordable housing and property management entities. This role performs and reviews accounting activities to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting while assisting with process improvements, workflow standardization, and training within the Accounting Department.

The Senior Property Accountant serves as a key operational resource within the accounting team and is expected to exercise strong judgment, identify issues proactively, and work collaboratively across departments to maintain the integrity of financial data and reporting.

REPORTS TO: Director of Accounting – Property Management

FLSA STATUS: Full-time, Exempt

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

NON – ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES: This position may provide training, guidance, and workflow support to accounting staff but does not initially include direct supervisory responsibility.

QUALFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred. 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience required, preferably in property management, real estate, affordable housing, or multi-entity accounting environments. Strong understanding of GAAP and financial statement preparation required. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel required. Experience with Yardi Voyager or similar property management/accounting software strongly preferred.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Computer experience in accounting and database systems. Should be familiar with basic rules of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. A bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance or equivalent experience is preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is preferred. Experience in the use of YARDI Voyager is a plus.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely. Communicates optimistically, positively, and with honesty and openness. Maintains confidentiality of all Agency information.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Strong analytical and quantitative skills with the ability to interpret financial data, identify discrepancies, and support financial decision-making.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment. Highly self-motivated, self-directed, and attentive to detail. Displays effective problem-solving skills, identifies and implements innovative practices and the ability to work with diverse groups of people.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Good interpersonal/human relation skills. Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment. Should be a self-starter who is willing to take ownership of the job and work independently when necessary. Have an attitude of continuous self-improvement and optimize the processes and show independent initiative to bring any process improvements to the table to discuss with team.

vehicle insurance.
