The Payroll Coordinator leads the day-to-day operations of the payroll department and is responsible for ensuring all payrolls are completed in a timely and accurate manner. This position serves as the main point of contact for internal and external payroll inquiries and provides training and assistance to the Assistant Payroll Coordinator. This position is ultimately responsible for compliance with federal, state, local and other regulations.
Essential Functions:
- Primarily responsible for ensuring all payroll-related deadlines are met (tax payments, direct deposit files, retirement funding, tax reporting, etc.) and payrolls are processed in compliance with federal, state, local and other regulations. This function involves regular research on existing and changing payroll regulations and testing in Banner and other systems.
- Directing the day-to-day operations of the payroll department and providing training and assistance to the Assistant Payroll Coordinator to ensure adequate cross-training and backup procedures are in place. Maintaining policies and procedures relating to the payroll function.
- Processing the semi-monthly payroll, including balancing and controlling earnings and deduction totals, calculating and preparing general ledger entries, inspecting automated system output, determining and correcting out-of-balance conditions, performing reconciliations to the general ledger and document imaging.
- Remitting payroll-related expenses and withholdings to the appropriate parties.
- Preparing payroll reports and providing detailed analysis in response to internal and external inquiries (including auditor requests).
Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED
3-5 years work experience in payroll
Preferred:
Associate's Degree - Business/Accounting
