The Payroll Analyst is responsible for supporting accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing for a multi-state employee population. This role partners closely with HR, Finance, Benefits, and IT to ensure payroll data integrity across Workday HCM and ADP, supports payroll technology enhancements, resolves payroll-related issues, and contributes to process improvements and controls that ensure operational excellence and regulatory compliance. This role primarily focuses on US payroll operations but will serve as the backup for Canada payroll operations.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Payroll Processing & Operations
Execute end-to-end payroll activities in ADP, including payroll calculations, audit validation, off-cycle payments, and adjustments (retro pay, bonuses, corrections, non-qualified deferred compensation, severance, lifestyle spending accounts, etc.).
Review and reconcile payroll inputs from Workday HCM (e.g., hires, terminations, job changes, compensation changes, time/absence inputs where applicable) to ensure accurate payroll results.
Audit payroll registers and pre/post-payroll reports; identify variances, research root cause, and implement corrective actions.
Partner with HR and managers to ensure timely submission of payroll-related actions and to resolve data issues that impact pay.
Support year-end processing, including W-2 validations, taxable benefit processing, and coordination of payroll calendars and deadlines.
Payroll Technology & Systems
Monitor and validate inbound/outbound integrations between Workday and ADP (e.g., worker demographic and job/comp changes, deductions, one-time payments, etc.).
Support testing for Workday/ADP changes, including regression testing, parallel payroll activities, and validation of configuration updates.
Partner with HR Systems and HRIT teams to design, test, and deploy system enhancements, updates, and configuration changes.
Develop and maintain integration control reports and exception reporting to proactively detect data inconsistencies.
Identify and implement automation opportunities (e.g., reducing manual uploads, improving audit reporting, leveraging Workday reporting tools).
Create and maintain detailed system documentation, data flow diagrams, and SOPs for payroll technology processes.
Compliance, Controls & Audit Support
Ensure payroll processes comply with federal, state, and local wage and hour requirements, tax withholding, and reporting obligations.
Support internal/external audits by providing documentation, reconciliation support, and evidence of payroll controls.
Assist in managing payroll-related compliance items such as garnishments, tax notices, and agency inquiries.
Customer Service & Issue Resolution
Respond to employee payroll inquiries through ticketing/case management tools and maintain service-level expectations.
Research and resolve pay issues (under/overpayments, missed deductions, tax discrepancies), communicating clearly with stakeholders.
Provide guidance on payroll policies and procedures, escalating complex issues appropriately.
Continuous Improvement
Identify opportunities to streamline payroll processes, reduce errors, and improve cycle times (standard work, checklists, controls, automation).
Update and maintain payroll documentation, SOPs, and knowledge base articles to support consistent execution and cross-training.
Participate in payroll projects such as system enhancements, new earnings/deduction implementations, and vendor updates.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience with 5+ year’s payroll processing experience within a web-based system
Certified Payroll Professional
Experience with multi-State payroll processing
Strong reconciliation skills and comfort working with large datasets
Intermediate proficiency in Excel (e.g., pivot tables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, SUMIFS, data validation; Power Query is a plus)
Ability to use AI to enhance processes and compliance
Strong knowledge of FLSA Wage and Hour Law
Ability to maintain, organize and synthesize sensitive and highly confidential data
Strong attention to detail with an ability to produce error-free work
Ability to be flexible when needed, take initiative, and demonstrate accountability
Ability to test new and/or existing payroll processes and procedures when system and business requirements change
Ability to work well within a team environment and actively contribute to department and cross-functional projects
Ability to work overtime and varied schedules, as needed
Ability to process prior quarter adjustments and assist with quarter end reconciliations
Ability to create, maintain, and run reports using ADP Reporting
Preferred:
Experience/knowledge of expatriate/international payroll processes
Experience with ADP Vantage payroll processing and Workday HCM
Experience with stock compensation (ie: RSU, SAR, PSC, and ESPP)
Experience with the impact of mobility on payroll transactions (ie: shadow payroll)
Experience with Canada payroll (ie: act as a backup to Canada payroll processing)
Familiarity with Workday reporting and Workday security concepts supporting payroll operations

Compensation Range:
$78,080.00 - $110,860.00 AnnualBase pay varies depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and market location. In addition, RGA provides an annual bonus plan that includes all roles and some positions are eligible for participation in our long-term equity incentive plan. RGA also maintains a full range of health, retirement, and other employee benefits.
