The Senior Manager of Accounting reports to the SVP of Accounting and Finance and works directly with the Accounting Manager and Accounting Specialist providing hands-on leadership for core accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash receipts, general ledger reconciliations, journal entries, month-end close, grant-related reporting, and accounting compliance activities. Remote work may be available as outlined in the HR Policies.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Agency Daily Operations and Financial Reporting in Compliance with GAAP
- Manage and oversee the daily and monthly duties of the Accounting Manager and Accounting Specialist to ensure tasks are completed accurately and timely.
- Review weekly check disbursements before approval by the President and CEO to confirm that all required approvals have been obtained.
- Ensure payables are processed in a timely manner and available discounts are taken when appropriate.
- Approve and direct issuance of credit memo requests for adjustments to homeowner account balances.
- Lead cross-department education on accounting matters to help staff understand applicable financial requirements, rules, and procedures.
- Oversees accounting policies, procedures, systems, and records in accordance with GAAP, HFHI policy, and Finance Committee-approved standards.
- Maintains the chart of accounts and oversees accounting processes related accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, job costing, and fund accounting.
- Reviews and analyzes reports, checks, journal entries, and other entries into the agency’s accounting system to support accuracy and control.
- Ensures receivables are collected promptly, payables are paid timely, available accounts payable discounts are taken when reasonable, and periodic bank reconciliations are completed.
- Monitors banking activity, cash flow, loans, bonds, debt levels, debt covenants, cash balances, leveraging balances, and required debt payments.
- Manages outsourced accounting functions and oversees the accounting department structure needed to meet departmental goals and objectives.
- Administer agency insurance programs, including auto, liability, and workers’ compensation coverage, and coordinate competitive renewal quotes at least two months before policy renewal.
- Manage the annual workers’ compensation audit and related follow-up work.
- Manage requests for insurance certificates and process agency notices and claims with carriers.
- Oversee quarterly Anti-Money Laundering and OFAC database comparisons for HFHGN donors, vendors, employees, and homeowners.
- Provide debarment check support to construction and other departments as requested.
- Ensure staff complete required Anti-Money Laundering and OFAC training through the Paycor training platform.
- Manage fleet vehicle acquisitions.
- Manage agency REO and market sales.
- Prepare and submit the Quarterly Affiliate Statistical Report online to HFHI.
- Prepare and file Forms 8283, 8282, and 1098-C timely.
- Maintain the online Dun & Bradstreet account for the agency and produce status reports.
- Renew nonprofit and tax-exempt statuses and state memberships annually.
- Prepare managerial agendas and reports for the Finance Committee needed for delinquency, accounting, budgeting, finance, and agency communications.
- Work on special agency projects as needed.
- Lead in preparation and execution of the annual financial audit.
- Lead the annual Form 990 reporting process in coordination with management, staff, and the external auditing firm.
- Participate in oversight and review of daily accounting transactions and duties as needed.
- Ensure that all Habitat for Humanity International and Affiliate Policies and Guidelines are followed.
- Participate in the annual review process.
- Other duties as directed by management.

- Provides hands-on leadership to direct reports in carrying out the core accounting operations of the Agency in a timely and accurate manner
- Apply accounting principles necessary to perform the position’s key responsibilities.
- Use strong data processing skills, including proficiency with Excel, FICS, MIP, Salesforce, and related systems.
- Maintain regular attendance, attention to detail, coordination, follow-up, and the ability to understand and enforce accounting guidelines and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- Five to ten years of finance or accounting experience, including management of direct reports.
- Solid working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Familiarity with MIP Fund Accounting Software, Excel, FICS, Salesforce, Crystal Reports, or similar applications.

- Commitment to conducting all activities in accordance with Habitat principles.
- CPA, MBA, or equivalent relevant experience.
TIME REQUIREMENTS:
This is a full-time position requiring 40+ hours per week. Satisfactory attendance is required.
