Senior Financial Analyst — Billings, Collections & Revenue (Telecom / SaaS)
Role Overview
The Senior Accountant, Billings, Collections & Revenue is responsible for managing end-to-end billing operations, accounts receivable, and revenue reporting in a telecom/SaaS environment. This role ensures accurate subscription and usage-based billing, timely collections, and compliant revenue recognition while providing actionable insights into recurring revenue performance, customer accounts, and cash flow optimization.
Key Responsibilities
Billing Operations & Accounts Receivable
- Manage the full billing lifecycle, including subscription billing, usage-based billing, contract invoicing, and credit adjustments.
- Ensure accurate invoice generation in accordance with customer contracts, pricing schedules, and service delivery.
- Oversee accounts receivable processes, including collection, cash application, and customer account reconciliations.
- Monitor AR aging and lead collections efforts by proactively following up on overdue accounts and resolving billing disputes.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance billing accuracy, automation, and collection efficiency where possible.
Revenue Recognition & Financial Close
- Support revenue recognition in accordance with IFRS 15, including performance obligations, and contract modifications.
- Prepare and post journal entries related to revenue, deferred revenue, unbilled revenue, and contract assets/liabilities.
- Maintain and reconcile balance sheet schedules relating to deferred/unbilled revenue, AFDA and related reserves.
- Ensure revenue data integrity across ERP and billing systems.
Recurring Revenue Analytics & Reporting
- Prepare reporting and analysis on key SaaS/telecom metrics, including:
- Recurring Revenue
- Bookings and backlog
- Revenue churn and retention
- AR aging and collections performance
- Revenue by product, service, or customer segment
- Monitor and analyze revenue trends, providing insights to support pricing strategy and revenue growth initiatives.
- Review and test billing and revenue systems to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
Contract & Order-to-Cash Support
- Review customer contracts and sales orders to ensure proper billing setup and revenue treatment.
- Support order-to-cash processes, including contract onboarding, billing configuration, and revenue schedules.
- Collaborate with sales operations and legal teams to ensure alignment between commercial terms and accounting treatment.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with sales, customer success, operations, and finance teams to support revenue accuracy and customer account management.
- Serve as a key contact for billing, contract, and revenue-related inquiries.
- Support alignment on financial targets and revenue forecasts.
Compliance, Controls & Strategic Support
- Maintain and enhance internal controls over billing, revenue, and accounts receivable processes.
- Assist with internal and external audits, including revenue testing and documentation support.
- Support budgeting and forecasting by providing insights into recurring revenue, billing trends, and collections performance.
- Recommend improvements to billing platforms, ERP integrations, and revenue processes.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (working toward designation preferred).
- Prior 3+ years of experience in telecom, SaaS, or recurring revenue environments is an asset, but not mandatory.
- Strong knowledge of subscription billing, usage-based billing, and revenue recognition principles (IFRS 15).
- Experience with ERP, CRM and billing systems (NetSuite, Salesforce, or similar preferred).
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and strong financial analysis capabilities.
- Strong understanding of order-to-cash and contract-based revenue models.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
