Job Summary
HME Construction is seeking a Construction Accountant to manage the financial aspects of our multi-family and senior living projects from pre-construction through closeout. This role is critical in ensuring accurate job costing, lender draw reporting, progress billing, and compliance with contract and loan requirements. The ideal candidate has hands-on construction accounting experience and understands long-duration, multi-phase projects.
Key Responsibilities
Project & Job Cost Accounting
- Set up and maintain job cost structures for multi-family and senior living projects
- Track budgets, committed costs, forecasts, and cost-to-complete
- Monitor labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor costs
- Prepare and maintain Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules
- Identify and communicate cost overruns, underbilling, and financial risks
Billing, Draws & Revenue Recognition
- Prepare monthly owner and lender progress billings (AIA G702/G703)
- Assemble construction loan draw packages, including schedules of values, stored materials, and required backup
- Track contract values, approved change orders, and retainage
- Ensure accurate revenue recognition in accordance with GAAP and percentage-of-completion accounting
- Reconcile billed revenue to job costs and budgets
Accounts Payable & Subcontractor Management
- Review subcontractors pay applications for accuracy and contract compliance
- Verify lien waivers, insurance certificates, and compliance documentation
- Track and manage subcontractor retainage and releases
- Coordinate closely with Project Managers to resolve billing and cost issues
Financial Reporting & Project Closeout
- Support monthly and year-end financial close related to construction projects
- Prepare job cost reports for internal management, lenders, and ownership groups
- Assist with project closeout and final billings.
- Support audits, lender reviews, and third-party reporting.
- Maintain monthly credit card coding and review.
- Fleet Management of construction vehicles.
Collaboration & Compliance
- Work closely with Project Managers, Estimators, Development, and Operations teams
- Support cash flow forecasting and long-term project planning
- Ensure compliance with contracts, lender requirements, and HME Construction accounting policies
- Maintain organized and accurate financial records
HME Companies Accounting Support
- Support the Director of Accounting and various other departments as needed. May include assistance with year-end financial review, development proformas, company KPI calculations, AP & AR support, ect.
