What you will be doing
- Lead the Group’s tax governance, compliance and reporting framework, including preparation and lodgement of all tax returns, ATO filings and customer‑related tax reporting.
- Advise the Board, Executive and business leaders on tax strategy, posture, risk appetite and the tax implications of strategic initiatives, including mergers and acquisitions.
- Oversee tax‑related financial reporting, including disclosures in statutory accounts, the Tax Transparency Report and the Reportable Tax Position schedule.
- Maintain and enhance tax policies, manuals, procedures and governance controls, ensuring compliance with legislation and alignment to risk appetite.
- Develop tax and accounting position papers to support strategic and operational initiatives, including fixed assets, leases, capital/operating expenditure and M&A‑related items.
- Manage relationships with external tax agents, advisers, auditors, regulators and industry bodies, representing the bank in external forums.
- Mentor and develop Finance team members while driving continuous improvement across tax systems, processes and controls.
- Support broader finance activities, including statutory reporting, APRA regulatory reporting, sustainability reporting and enterprise‑wide transformation initiatives.
What you will bring
- Deep technical expertise in tax legislation, governance and compliance.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving and decision‑making capability, with the ability to interpret complex tax and accounting matters.
- Excellent communication skills, able to convey complex information clearly and influence senior stakeholders, including the Board and Executive.
- A collaborative leadership style with the ability to mentor others and drive continuous improvement across systems, processes and controls.
