Are you a manufacturing cost accounting professional who enjoys digging into data, identifying opportunities, and partnering with operations to drive real business results? Reading Bakery Systems (RBS), a global leader in the design and manufacturing of innovative bakery production systems, is seeking a Senior Cost Accountant to join our team and play a key role in driving operational excellence.
Reporting directly to the CFO, this position offers a unique opportunity to become a strategic business partner to Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, and senior leadership. The successful candidate will help drive increased margins, better understanding of our product costs, optimized inventory levels, and improved manufacturing reporting. The individual will provide the financial insight needed to support continued growth and operational excellence.
What You'll Do
Manufacturing Cost Improvement
- Analyze manufacturing costs and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and profitability.
- Partner with Operations, Engineering, and Supply Chain teams to support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Evaluate labor, material, overhead, and production costs and provide actionable recommendations.
- Assist with product costing and profitability analysis.
Inventory Management & Optimization
- Maintain accurate inventory records and perform monthly inventory reconciliations.
- Investigate inventory discrepancies and implement corrective actions.
- Partner with Operations team to identify opportunities to reduce inventory investment while maintaining operational effectiveness.
- Monitor inventory turns, aging, excess inventory, and related performance metrics.
Manufacturing Reporting & Analysis
- Identify root causes of variances and work with operations teams to implement improvements.
- Develop and maintain meaningful KPIs and dashboards that support decision-making.
- Provide management with timely and actionable financial insights.
Financial Support
- Support monthly and annual financial close processes.
- Perform ad hoc financial analysis and support strategic business initiatives.
Qualifications
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 5+ years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing operations, product costing, and inventory accounting.
- Experience working cross-functionally with operations teams to support lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, inventory reduction, and operational excellence initiatives.
- Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP systems. Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 is a big plus.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence positive change throughout the organization.
