We are looking for a knowledgeable accounting professional with experience managing an Accounts Payable team. The ideal candidate has experience using various accounting software’s such as NetSuite, GP and AvidPay and possess knowledge of Microsoft’s suite of products including advanced to intermediate level excel skills.
Job Description
The Senior Accounts Payable Specialist is responsible for the overall operation of the accounts payable department. This role reports to the Corporate Controller and supervises a team of 2-3 Accounts Payable Specialists. They are goal oriented and deadline driven; consistently keeping weekly and monthly accounting timelines on schedule. They accomplish profitability by exercising attention to detail and following the proper processes and policies to maintain accurate payables. They utilize and implement practices that maximize vendor discounts and facilitate meetings with outside vendors to correct discrepancies. The Senior Accounts Payable Specialist possesses strong communication and management skills to build and support an organized and efficient A/P team.
Responsibilities
Overall duties include, but are not limited to:
- Follow company processes, controls, and policies.
- Oversee the end-to-end accounts payable process, including invoice receipt, coding, approval routing, payment processing, and vendor reconciliation
- Receive invoices, perform necessary validations, and execute transactions with timeliness. Review and execute vendor payment selection to meet and maximize payment discounts.
- Help establish and enforce AP policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure compliance and reduce risk of fraud or error
- Create and act on month-end accounts payable reports in coordination with the Corporate Controller and Production Controller
- Strong verbal and written communication skills required to support internal associates and resolve issues and invoice discrepancies with outside vendors.
- Aid in handling documents and automated invoice systems and payments
- Year end 1099 review and preparation.
- Demonstrate leadership skills and develop new employees. Supervise and lead A/P department of 2-3 associates.
- Provide excellent customer service to all stakeholders, including vendors, facilities, and colleagues.
- Ensure company policies, processes, and procedures are clearly defined, updated, and documented
Education & Skills
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance preferred
- Prior Accounts Payable (AP) experience in a Senior or Lead Role
- Expert or Intermediate level Microsoft Excel skills
- Experience working with automated invoice systems, purchase orders, related documents, and processes
- Strong organization skills. Ability to multi-task, meet firm deadlines, proactively prioritize needs, and effectively manage priorities for multiple businesses/subsidiaries on a concurrent basis
Preferred
- Experience in a Shared Service environment
- Proficiency with ERP systems like Microsoft Dynamics preferred
- Imaging and/or OCR technology experience
- 3-5 years of experience
- 1-2 year of experience directly managing an A/P team

Employment Classification: Exempt
Compensation: 60,000-70,000 a year
