Performs highly responsible duties in the preparation and maintenance of the City’s financial, accounting and statistical records and reports to ensure the timely and accurate reporting of operations in accordance with sound financial management principles and practices.

IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate for the Senior Accounting Technician role is a detail-oriented and analytical accounting professional with experience in financial recordkeeping, general ledger reconciliation, governmental accounting practices, and the preparation of accurate monthly and annual financial reports. They bring strong proficiency in Excel, Oracle, and other financial software, demonstrate sound judgment, and excel at researching variances, preparing adjusting entries, and ensuring proper internal controls. This candidate is highly organized, able to prioritize competing deadlines, and skilled in coordinating workload, training staff, and collaborating effectively across departments. They are adept at performing accounts receivable functions, reconciling bank statements and revenue, preparing budget-related reports, and supporting the development of the City’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report. With excellent communication skills and the ability to work with sustained concentration, they approach each task with initiative, professionalism, and a commitment to accurate, timely financial reporting.

SELECTION PROCESS

  1. Complete Online Application - Interested candidates MUST submit a completed application through the City’s application system. Evaluation of meeting requirements will be made solely on information provided on the application and any required attachments.
  2. The selection process will begin with a screening of the application/resume - The best-qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the assessment process.
  3. Oral Board Interview - (Weighted 100%, Passing Score 70%)
  4. Pre-Employment Screening – Selected candidates for this position are subject to a pre-employment screening which includes but is not limited to local & state criminal history check; federal criminal history checks via submission of fingerprints; and drug screening. *IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Background check processing may take 2 to 3 months to complete.
  5. Selection/Offers 

The selection process may include any combination of written, performance, and oral assessments to evaluate job-related education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The City reserves the right to modify selection devices and test instruments in accordance with accepted legal, ethical, and professional standards.
