- Oversee day-to-day accounting operations for construction projects and related business activities.
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Prepare and review financial statements, project profitability reports, and management reports.
- Ensure accuracy of general ledger activity and project-related accounting transactions.
- Monitor and analyze project financial performance, budgets, labor costs, and forecasting.
- Maintain and review Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules and revenue recognition calculations.
- Oversee job costing and project accounting functions for multiple projects and contracts.
- Monitor contract billing, progress billings, retainage, and change orders.
- Review subcontractor invoices, lien waivers, and project cost allocations.
- Ensure compliance with construction contracts, government contract requirements, and applicable accounting standards.
- Partner with project managers and operational leadership to support project financial performance and cost control initiatives.
- Analyze project variances and provide recommendations to improve profitability and operational efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and internal controls.
- Support internal and external audits, including preparation of requested documentation and schedules.
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations.
- Assist with implementation and monitoring of accounting procedures and financial controls.
- Support payroll, tax reporting, and financial compliance activities as needed.
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff, including project accountants and accounting coordinators.
- Provide guidance, training, and performance management for assigned team members.
- Promote collaboration between finance, operations, and project management teams.
- Assist with process improvement initiatives and financial system enhancements.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field required.
- CPA or CMA certification preferred.
- Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive accounting experience required.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of construction accounting experience required.
- Experience with government contracts, federal contracting, or multi-site operations preferred.
- Strong knowledge of construction accounting principles, job costing, and WIP reporting.
- Understanding of percentage-of-completion accounting and revenue recognition.
- Proficiency with ERP/accounting systems and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Experience with Sage, Viewpoint, Deltek, or similar construction accounting software.
- Experience supporting federal contracts or Service Contract Act (SCA) environments.
- Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills.
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and strategic financial planning.
- Ability to sit for extended periods while working on a computer.
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 15 pounds.
- Ability to travel occasionally, if required.
