The American Academy of Dermatology is seeking a Senior Accounting Manager located in our Rosemont, IL. office responsible for overseeing the Academy’s financial reporting, general ledger analysis, accounts payable and receivable functions, sales tax and cash reporting. Assist in preparing and reviewing the Academy’s fixed assets, leases, purchasing, inter-company activity, grants/sponsorships and fund accounting and reporting.

Responsibilities:
- Oversee the monthly closing of Academy’s books. Oversee monthly account analysis and schedule preparation. Review financial reports, detect and correct errors, and provide solutions to minimize future errors.
- Oversee and manage year-end financial statement close and preparation of work paper schedules of account analysis in conjunction with annual audit performed by independent CPA firm. Oversee and manage all phases of audit fieldwork including updating internal procedures and controls.
- Prepare necessary tax return schedules to assist CPA firm in their preparation of Academy’s annual tax return filings. Oversee and manage all governmental reporting and filings, as necessary.
- Review and analyze daily cash reports, cash applications, and monthly bank reconciliations. Review and analyze accounts payable check runs for accuracy, proper support and authorizations. Monitor billing and accounts receivable processes for timeliness, follow up and collection.
- Develop, implement and maintain accounting procedures manual covering all key operational aspects of the Finance Department. Manage the various contract and permanent files of the Academy.
- Oversee and manage the Academy’s corporate credit card accounts. Review staff charges and the weekly credit card report. Update credit card limits. Monitor cash for the monthly credit card payment. Review all A/P transactions for potential credit card payments resulting in maximum year end rebate.
- Manage PN3 software including potential upgrades and implications to AAD payable processes. Manage Academy’s Sales Tax liability coordinating with appropriate AAD staff and our vendor determining whether AAD has Nexus and any sales tax liability in various states and then managing implementing and reporting appropriate rates and liabilities to the various legal entities.
- Oversee the Academy's grants and sponsorship accounting activities. Review related revenue recognition, restricted fund accounting, reporting, and reconciliations. Provide oversight and direction to accounting staff responsible for the day-to-day administration of grants and sponsorship transactions.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required; Master’s degree preferred.
- CPA designation preferred.
- Minimum eight years of general ledger experience with a mid- size firm ($ in revenue) required.
- Minimum of 4 years of people management or leading, training, coaching non-direct reports required.
- Experience with computer based financial systems including general ledger (Sage a plus), accounts receivable, and accounts payable required.
- Public accounting and/or Not-for-profit experience a plus.
- Effective analytical, organizational, written/verbal interpersonal communication skills essential.
- Extensive experience with MS Office required.
- Strong project management skills and the ability to coordinate and communicate between various levels of the organization.
- Ability to organize, evaluate and provide alternative financial solutions during budgeting, forecasting, and monthly and Annual closing of the books processes.
