VFPis seeking a detail-oriented Senior Accountant to support the company's accounting operations, with a strong emphasis on multi-state sales tax compliance and month-end financial reporting. This role is ideal for an experienced accountant who enjoys balancing routine accounting responsibilities with specialized, technical work requiring accuracy and critical thinking.

The ideal candidate will have prior experience filing sales tax across multiple states, a solid understanding of month-end close processes, and the ability to work independently while identifying opportunities to improve efficiencies.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage multi-state sales and use tax filings across 30+ states, ensuring compliance with state regulations.
• Support month-end close, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• Research sales tax issues and maintain accurate tax documentation.
• Prepare financial reports and perform general accounting activities.
• Partner with internal teams to improve accounting processes and maintain data accuracy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.
• 3–5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Previous experience preparing and filing multi-state sales tax returns strongly preferred.
• Strong understanding of month-end close processes and general accounting principles.
• Experience working in an ERP system (Microsoft Dynamics 365 preferred).
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage recurring deadlines while balancing multiple priorities.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to think beyond transactional accounting.

Preferred Experience

• Experience filing sales tax for multiple legal entities.
• Experience in manufacturing, distribution, wholesale, or a commodity-based industry is a plus.
• Familiarity with outsourced tax compliance providers is helpful but not required.
