Role Summary
We’re growing and we’re looking for a detail-oriented, process-loving accountant to join our finance team in Edmonton. Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Accountant is responsible for owning day-to-day finance operations with a focus on accounts payable, accounts receivable, procurement, and spend management across the organization. This is a hands-on role that sits at the intersection of finance and operations, built for someone who takes pride in owning the details — accurate books, tight controls, disciplined purchasing, and well-run processes. The role plays a key part in maintaining financial discipline across events, supporting cash flow visibility, and building scalable systems and processes as the business continues to grow. If you're a few years into your accounting career and ready to take on more — this is your opportunity.
Key Responsibilities
Core Accounting & Month-End Close
● Own and execute day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger maintenance.
● Lead the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness across all financial data.
● Perform and review account reconciliations, proactively identifying and resolving discrepancies.
● Ensure financial records are maintained in accordance with applicable accounting standards and internal policies.
● Coordinate with external accountants and advisors as required.
Accounts Payable & Purchasing Controls
● Own the full-cycle accounts payable function, including invoice processing, approvals, and payment execution.
● Support and enforce purchasing policies, approval workflows, and spending controls across the organization.
● Maintain the purchase order process, ensuring spend is appropriately authorized and aligned with approved budgets.
● Monitor spend activity for accuracy and flag variances or concerns to the Controller proactively.
● Contribute ideas to strengthen controls and improve cost management as you become familiar with the business.
Cash Flow Support & Expense Tracking
● Support cash flow visibility through accurate and timely tracking of payables, receivables, and payment timing.
● Ensure expenses are coded correctly and aligned with event budgets and cost tracking frameworks.
● Assist with cost allocation across events and business units to enable accurate performance tracking.
Process Improvement & Systems Ownership
● Help improve and document accounting workflows, systems, and processes that can scale with a growing organization.
● Drive standardization and consistency across all accounting and purchasing activities.
● Take ownership of the tools and systems used in day-to-day accounting, with a focus on reducing manual work and increasing confidence in the numbers.
Qualifications and Experience
● 5+ years of experience in accounting, with experience in full-cycle accounting
● Proven track record owning accounting operations and month-end close processes
● Experience and knowledge of accounts payable, purchasing processes, and internal controls
● CPA designation is considered an asset but is not required — equivalent hands-on experience in full-cycle accounting is equally valued
● Experience in event-based, project-based, or high-volume seasonal environments is a plus
● Systems-oriented mindset with a genuine interest in process improvement and building better ways of working
● Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to juggle competing priorities.
● Eager to take initiative, ask good questions, and grow into greater ownership over time.
● A team player who communicates well and is comfortable working across departments.
● Resilient and adaptable — you don’t rattle easily when things get busy during event season
●Knowledge of Google based platform environment
