Under the administrative direction of the Accounting Manager, the Senior Accountant assists with financial reporting for the organization according to established procedures. The Senior Accountant will perform functions around monthly financial close of assigned Hospital locations and prepare support for intercompany payments between among hospitals and holding entities. In addition, the Senior Accountant will complete monthly balance sheet reconciliation and provide support fo Hospitals. The Senior Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations. The senior role is also responsible for taking a leadership role to guide and train accounting personnel in their daily, monthly, and annual task.
Responsibilities
- Financial Record Keeping: Ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial records, including general ledger management. This includes recording monthly, quarterly, and annual journal entries to ensure that periods are closed timely per the accounting close schedule and providing guidance to Accounts Payable staff on coding invoices and appropriate handling of multi period expenditures.
- Financial Reporting: Preparing financial statements (income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements) and other regulatory reports. On a monthly basis prepare detailed 12M Trend, monthly actual to budget variance reports to support management in the review of monthly operating performance. Responsible for creating expanded financial reports upon request.
- Account Reconciliations: Perform Balance Sheet and P&L account reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness for financial records monthly and during close for certain accounts (Ex. Cash, AR, and AP reconciliations). Including all supporting documentation for assigned accounts to ensure balances are valid. Responsible for follow-up on all un-reconciled items and researching variances.
- Data Analysis: Analyzing financial data to identify trends, estimates for accruals, potential problems, and opportunities for improvement. Also related is review of invoices for proper coding and treatment.
- Budgeting and Forecasting: Assisting with annual budget preparation and financial forecasting. Provide financial data to assist operations group in developing the yearly budget. This includes importing the budget into the EMR system for variance analysis noted above.
- Compliance: Ensuring compliance with accounting standards (GAAP) and relevant regulations.
- Audit Support: Assisting with internal and external audits, such as updating audit templates, providing support of audit testing, and responses to audit inquiries. This role is also responsible for compiling and reviewing information collected by the Staff Accountants.
- Process Improvement: Identifying opportunities to improve accounting processes and procedures. This includes updating SOP documentation as well as creating new SOP as needed.
- Accounting Review: Review of staff accountant work to ensure journal entries, financial statements, and reconciliations are accurate and complete. Provide feedback and training to staff as needed.

3-5 years of experience in full-cycle accounting.
- Bachelor degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent.
