Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group (MAPMG) invites applications for a Senior Accountant to join our Financial Services department. This position is a full-time opportunity based out of our regional office located in Washington, D.C. with a hybrid work model.

Reporting to the Accounting and Tax Manager, the Senior Accountant supports the maintenance of the general ledger and participates in the monthly close process, account reconciliations, close reporting, analysis, and financial reporting. You will prepare journal entries, support internal reporting, assist business areas with financial interpretation, prepare board reports, and help ensure accurate and timely financial transactions that support the needs of the organization.
You can expect to:
- Prepare journal entries, monthly invoices, account reconciliations, and internal financial reports.
- Participate in the month-end close process, including calculating and recording general ledger entries and validating source data.
- Review financial transactions, journal entries, account trends, variance reports, and close meeting materials.
- Partner with business owners and management to interpret financial results, trends, and account activity.
- Support external audits by preparing documentation and working with auditors during audit periods.
- Research and resolve questionable entries and technical accounting issues of moderate to difficult complexity.
- Maintain and update accounting policies, procedures, general ledger chart fields, and internal reporting tools.
- Provide guidance and support to staff accountants on technical accounting matters.
- Ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, internal controls, confidentiality expectations, and organizational policies.
What is required:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Accounting or Business Administration required.
- Master’s degree or CPA in progress preferred.
- Substantial experience directly related to accounting; seven or more years preferred.
- Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
- Experience with month-end close, general ledger maintenance, account reconciliations, journal entries, financial reporting, and variance analysis.
- Experience supporting audits, researching accounting issues, and maintaining accounting policies and procedures.
- Proficiency with spreadsheet software.
- Strong interpersonal, written communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Organized, accurate, and detail-oriented.
- Ability to establish professional relationships built on trust and integrity.
- Must be able to commute to Washington D.C., on an as needed basis.
- Candidates must either currently live in or be willing to relocate to the Washington D.C. metropolitan area
- Must provide documentation for the influenza vaccine as a condition of employment

The starting annual salary for this position ranges from $95,000 to $105,000 depending on circumstances including an applicant’s skills and qualifications, certain degrees and certifications, prior job experience, training, market data, and other relevant factors.
