Overview
The Senior Accountant plays a key role in supporting financial operations within a dynamic manufacturing environment. This position is a key leader of month-end close activities, performing detailed variance analysis, driving process improvements, and partnering cross-functionally to enhance operational efficiency and financial performance. The ideal candidate brings 3+ years of progressive accounting experience in a large-scale manufacturing setting, with a strong technical and analytical mindset and a focus on continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
Support and actively participate in the monthly financial close process, including preparing/reviewing journal entries, closing various month-end ERP modules, and performing balance sheet reconciliations Play a key role in initiatives to reduce the duration of the month-end close process through process improvements and increased efficiency Validate accrual amounts vs. spend and recommend quarterly true-up adjustments Track, report, and analyze plant cost factors such as labor, overhead, and freight Perform monthly fluctuation analysis, manufacturing cost variance analysis, and price variance analysis Assist with physical inventory and cycle counting processes as appropriate. Audit and maintain fixed asset schedules; Works with project owners to ensure timely capitalization of equipment placed in service Validate capital spending with project owners to ensure accurate monthly reporting and assist with facilitating the quarterly capital review meetings Provide mentorship and guidance to other accounting staff to support team development and technical growth
Secondary Responsibilities:
Ensure the integrity of the financial information generated Help to implement consistency and process improvements in inventory control
Performs product line profitability analysis Analyze and review bills of material to ensure accurate product costing
Occasionally act as a backup for Accounts Receivable
Assist with tracking and reporting plant scrap and inventory material usage variances Assist with Book-to-Perpetual and Book-to-Physical variance analysis and root cause analysis
Assist in performing post capital project audits to verify savings that are being realized Assist with preparing monthly and quarterly manufacturing census reports. Assist in the preparation of various reporting spreadsheets for tax or other government agencies Help ensure adherence to Hytrol’s accounting/internal control procedures. Perform special studies and ad-hoc analyses under the request and supervision of management
Qualifications
Strong knowledge of process controls in a manufacturing environment Ability to work in a team environment across all levels of the organization is essential Strong analytical, organizational, time management, and multi-tasking skills Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel are a must, and experience in other data analytics software is a plus The financial nature and scope of responsibilities require any successful candidate for this role to be a person who is detail-oriented
Education
This position requires a bachelor's degree in a related area, such as finance, accounting, business administration, economics, statistics, or mathematics.
