Position Summary
The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing day-to-day accounting operations, with a strong focus on accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash management. This role ensures accurate and timely financial processes, supports financial reporting, and maintains compliance.
Job Purpose
Reporting to the CEO, the Senior Accountant executes core accounting functions and maintains the integrity of financial data. This role manages payables and receivables, monitors cash flow, processes payroll, and supports financial reporting to ensure smooth and accurate day-to-day financial operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger activity, journal entries, and account reconciliations
- Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable, ensuring timely vendor payments and customer collections
- Monitor daily cash balances and track inflows and outflows
- Maintain accurate financial records and proper documentation of all transactions
- Support the month-end and year-end close processes
- Prepare and assist with financial reports, including balance sheet and income statement
- Process payroll and support commission calculations for employees and contractors
- Partner with HR to ensure payroll data accuracy and proper tax filings
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, payroll regulations, and tax requirements
- Identify and support improvements to accounting processes and internal controls
- Coordinate with external partners, including accountants, auditors, and payroll providers
Required Skills and Competencies
- Strong understanding of accounting principles (GAAP) and financial reporting
- Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash management
- Proficiency in QuickBooks and payroll systems (ADP preferred)
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Effective communication skills
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- 5 to 7 years of experience in accounting or finance
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience managing day-to-day accounting operations (AP/AR, reconciliations, payroll)
- Experience in a small to mid-sized business environment
- Exposure to cash flow management and financial reporting
- CPA or CMA preferred, but not required
