Position Overview
Forest Lake Area School District is currently seeking applicants for the position of Senior Accountant-Benefits/Leave Position starting July 1, 2026.

POSITION: Senior Accountant-Benefits/Leave
LOCATION: District Office
WORK SCHEDULE: 8 hours/day, 5 days/week, and 260 days/year
STARTING RATE OF PAY/RANGE: $37.18/Hour

Job Description
Forest Lake Area Schools is located on the Northeastern edge of the Twin Cities metro area with approximately 6,500 students, and an annual budget of $100 million. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package for this full time, 12-month position. We are seeking an individual to play a vital role in delivering accurate, compliant, and employee-focused benefits administration. This position oversees benefit and payroll systems, ensuring seamless processing of deductions, leave programs, and vendor payments while maintaining strict adherence to federal and state regulations. As a trusted resource, this role partners with employees and leadership to resolve complex benefit and leave questions, improve processes, and enhance system efficiency. Ideal for a detail-oriented professional who enjoys problem-solving and collaboration, this position is key to ensuring a smooth and reliable benefits experience across the organization.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinate and process all employee benefits data in the finance system, ensuring compliance with federal/state laws, labor agreements, and school board policies.
- Oversee and maintain systems for payroll, leave tracking, benefits, and deductions, including implementing updates based on system upgrades.
- Resolve complex employee and administrative inquiries related to benefits and leave, collaborating with staff and leadership to implement solutions.
- Perform audits and ensure accuracy of benefit deductions, insurance premiums, and payments to vendors and providers.
- Manage and track employee leave programs (e.g., MN Paid Family Leave, FMLA, ESST, disability, workers' compensation), ensuring compliance with timelines and regulations.
- Calculate employee benefit contributions and coordinate processes such as long-term disability claims and ongoing leave/pay monitoring.
Qualifications
Minimum requirements:
- Associate Degree.
- Five years of accounting background.
- School district accounting experience preferred.
Skill, Knowledge, Abilities:
- Excellent computer skills in Microsoft products, specifically Excel and ability to learn new program applications quickly.
- Perform work assignments requiring attention to detail, precision and accuracy and in accordance with set deadlines under minimal direction and supervisor.
- Effective business analytical skills and techniques.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high volume processing environment, significant attention to detail and accuracy, as well as strong verbal and written communications.
Salary & Benefits
- $37.18/hour, 8 hours day, 52 weeks per year
