Summary
The Senior Accountant is responsible for day-to-day financial activities. This includes creating month end journal entries, reinsurance statements, internal management reporting, including the analysis and interpretation of data, systems and data flows, maintenance of the general ledger and support of the finance control environment.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
• Oversee the month end close and manage the preparation of monthly journal entries and account reconciliations
• Prepare and distribute monthly commission and reinsurance reports
• Prepare monthly transfers
• Review general ledger items for accuracy and completeness
• Review, analyze, report, and interpret financial reports
• Review, analyze and report claim payments, including xs claims
• Prepare monthly account reconciliations
• Assist with preparation of audit work papers
• Review reinsurance agreements and prepare settlements
• Prepare draft various statutory schedules
• Perform various projects and analysis as required
• Work collaboratively with the actuary, underwriting and claims departments
• Other responsibilities as assigned

• Strong organizational skills to manage daily responsibilities
• Must have strong math and analytical skills
• Detail oriented; able to multi-task; enjoy fast paced environment
• Technical aptitude for multi-systems
• Solid understanding of GAAP and STAT
• Demonstrate an understanding of the business operation, objectives, and metrics
• Propose ideas for efficiencies and streamlined processes
• Work cohesively in a team-oriented environment with other financial staff, underwriting, sales, and actuarial staff
• Ability to work in a fast-paced and multi-tasking environment, with minimal direct supervision
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft financial application products
• Must be able to analyze complex data and prepare a variety of reports
• Expresses objectives, procedures, results, and business impacts clearly and logically in both written and verbal form
• Consistently identifies issues, root causes and makes business-focused recommendations
Qualifications, Education and Experience Preferred
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required
• Experienced professional with 4-5 years’ experience in corporate accounting and general ledger; P&C insurance and statutory reporting experience preferred
Compensation & Benefits
The applicable base salary for this opportunity is $75,000 - $95,000. The base pay offered will be determined by factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and any applicable minimum wage requirements. In addition to the base salary, this opportunity may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
