Position: Secretary/Accountant f (S12)

Salary Range: Service_Salary_Schedule_2024_Annual.pdf (core-docs.s3.amazonaws.com) based on experience and education level per Putnam County Board of Education salary schedule plus a competitive benefits package to include: PEIA insurance, retirement, life insurance, and free vision and dental insurance.

Job Description:  The Secretary/Accountant for Insurance/Retirement/Payroll works cooperatively with the Business Manager/Treasurer,  Assistant Treasurer, and Coordinator of Payroll to ensure that activities related to employee insurance, retirement, payroll, annuities and all other payroll deductions are completed in an efficient and effective manner.

Qualifications:            Holds a high school diploma or GED.

Holds  “Secretary” and “Accountant” classifications.

                                   Has knowledge and skills necessary to operate a personal computer.

Length of Employment:   261 Days

Responsibilities:          The Secretary/Accountant for Insurance/Retirement/Payroll shall have the following responsibilities and duties:

  1. To maintain insurance records for all employees.
  2. To compute insurance rates for all employees.
  3. To attend periodic training sessions.
  4. To assist employees with retirement forms and remit them to the Retirement Board.
  5. To maintain accurate records on county retirees and process payments monthly.
  6. To remit monthly payments for proper tax sheltered annuity and life insurance policies.
  7. To maintain and remit payments for Section 125 plan participants.
  8. To maintain accurate garnishment records.
  9. To figure proper deduction amounts and remit checks to proper debtors on a semi-monthly basis.
  10. To make proper miscellaneous deductions and remit payments to proper organizations.
  11. To assist with payroll input information, editing of payrolls and processing of payroll.
  12. Reconcile all deduction reports, including but not limited to, PEIA, Retirement, and all voluntary deductions.
  13. Meet with new hires, maintaining and monitoring new hires packets.
  14. To perform other duties assigned by the Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer, and/or Coordinator of Payroll.

Daily Schedule:  Currently – 8:00 am - 4:00 pm
