Sales Use Tax Accountant

We are seeking Sales & Use Tax Accountant who will also supervise a team of accounts payable specialists. The position is located at our HQ in Middlefield, CT.

In this role, you will oversee accounts payable operations and manage multi-state sales and use tax compliance. This role blends hands on tax work with leadership of the accounts payable function

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Supervise daily accounts payable activities, including invoice processing, approvals, and vendor payments
• Review AP transactions, manage vendor relationships, and oversee 1099 reporting
• Calculate and support sales & use tax filings across 27 states, including Wayfair nexus considerations
• Manage exemption certificates, W-9s, tax registrations, and business licenses
• Recommend tax treatment on purchase transactions
• Assist with tax audits, notices, and inquiries
• Prepare journal entries, perform reconciliations, and support month-end close

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
• 3-5 years of experience in sales and use tax compliance
• Problem‑solving and productive decision‑making skills
• Planful and organized, with ability to operate in a fast‑paced environment

• Team leadership, collaboration, and ability to coach and develop others
• Attention to detail
• Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization
