POSITION SUMMARY
The Accounting Supervisor position oversees the Sales Tax Department, leading various organizational accounting functions. Key responsibilities include managing sales and use tax reporting, coordinating audits, performing general ledger reconciliations, and processing journal entries. Additionally, this role provides essential support to tire centers regarding sales tax and exemption inquiries.
Serving as a mentor and coordinator, the Supervisor guides team resources according to leadership objectives. The position involves distributing assignments, resolving operational challenges, and managing staff performance. Furthermore, the Supervisor collaborates with company leadership to provide updates on departmental progress and identify potential risks.
ACCOUNTING SUPERVISOR PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversee the sales tax function by directing staff assignments, providing professional mentorship, and managing the preparation and review of sales and use tax returns and reconciliations. This includes collaborating with the internal controls group to monitor department workflows, identifying opportunities for increased efficiency, and developing training resources.
Serve as the primary lead for sales tax audits by maintaining professional communication with state auditors and coordinating with internal departments to provide necessary data and minimize audit exposure. Keep senior management informed through regular audit status updates.
Support the development and deployment of new systems and solutions by providing expert perspective aligned with company and departmental requirements.
Manage general ledger activities on a daily and monthly basis to ensure all financial information is accurately classified, presented, and reconciled.
Facilitate year-end closing by producing required files and preparing accrual analyses and schedules. Work closely with both internal and external auditors to ensure a streamlined and effective year-end audit process.
ACCOUNTING SUPERVISOR MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field and 5+ years of tax, accounting or related experience, including financial close, reconciliations, analysis and reporting
CPA certification preferred
Supervisory experience strongly preferred
Advanced PC skills (Excel, Google Suite) with deep proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, Workday) and tax-specific compliance software (e.g., OneSource, Vertex).
Strong technical aptitude for leveraging ERP and tax software to drive process efficiencies, conduct complex tax research, and maintain system integrity.
Demonstrated ability to perform advanced data extraction and analysis to support audit readiness and financial reporting.
Ability to identify procedural and internal control weaknesses and provide suggestions and guidance for improvement.
Must possess the time management and organizational skills necessary to work quickly and effectively under pressure with the flexibility to perform in an ever-changing work environment, concentrating on several areas of work at one time
Strong analytical and decision-making skills with proven ability to manage high complexity and diversity of work assignments.
