We are looking for a Contract Residential Accounting- Team Lead to join our Corporate-Finance team in Calgary, AB, reporting to the Senior Manager, Operations Accounting. The Residential Accounting Team Lead is responsible for supporting the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting for Northview’s residential property portfolio across Canada. This role provides day-to-day leadership, guidance, and informal mentorship to the residential property accounting team while acting as a key liaison between Accounting and Operations divisions. The Team Lead supports month-end close activities, financial review processes, and reporting deliverables, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and compliance with corporate accounting standards. This position plays an important role in enabling effective financial reporting and supporting the continued efficiency and effectiveness of residential accounting operations.
This is an 18-month contract position.
Responsibilities
Mentorship & Support
- Provide guidance, coaching, and informal leadership to the residential property accounting team
- Support consistency in accounting processes, workflows, and reporting standards across the team
- Act as a point of escalation for accounting questions, issues, and process clarification
Financial Close & Reporting Support
- Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities, including review of reconciliations, journal entries, and working papers
- Assist with preparation and review of internal financial reporting for the residential portfolio
- Support variance analysis and financial review processes by providing insights and validating supporting documentation
Operations & Business Partnership
- Act as a key liaison between Residential Accounting and Operations, supporting financial and operational analysis as required
- Assist in responding to property-level accounting inquiries and ensuring timely resolution of issues
- Support the preparation of Management reporting and operational financial insights
Controls, Compliance & Audit
- Support adherence to corporate accounting policies and internal controls to ensure accuracy and integrity of financial information
- Assist with internal and external audit requests, including preparation and coordination of supporting documentation
- Ensure accounting records and documentation are maintained in accordance with established standards
Process Improvement & Projects
- Identify and support opportunities to improve efficiency, consistency, and effectiveness of accounting processes
- Participate in system, process, and reporting enhancement initiatives
- Support ad hoc projects and initiatives as required
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field
- 5+ years of accounting experience; property management or residential real estate preferred
- Experience mentoring and coaching junior and mid-level accountants
- CPA designation, or working towards designation, considered an asset
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with Yardi or other property management ERPs an asset.
