Description of Work

The Division of Professional Standards directs the Department of Adult Correction’s efforts in policy and procedure development and review; internal and external audit processes; federal PREA guidelines and audits; American Correctional Association accreditation; and quality assurance. While promoting and ensuring legal compliance with State, Federal and Departmental regulations and policies, as well as audit findings, the Division’s goal is to also identify training needs and best practices.
Under the supervision of the Accreditation and Compliance Manager, this position will be responsible for overseeing the process to gain ACA (American Correctional Association) accreditation for institutions located in the Eastern Region.
A critical ongoing responsibility will be to work with the Wardens and Facility Compliance Specialists in their assigned region, providing “hands on” guidance to ensure all operational policies and procedures are being followed and maintained as required by NCDAC policy and ACA guidelines.
After initial ACA accreditation is received, this position will assist facilities maintain their ACA accreditation at the three-year cycle intervals.
This position, at the division level will assist to create a newly developed system of compliance Internal/External Audits that combine NIC standards with ACA standards.
The person assigned to this position may also be asked to review and assist with Region Audits as well as any national accreditations that the division may pursue.
This position will work collaboratively with other Prison leadership positions (Quality Assurance Director, PREA Director, Accreditation and Compliance Managers, Division Directors, Regional Directors, and Wardens) to develop strategies for enhancing prison operations, using the results of operational audits, and other measures developed by this section.
Finally, this position will be asked to assist in the training and orientation of facility compliance specialists.
Statewide travel and occasional overnight travel are required.

Salary Grade Range:  $60,881.00 - $106,544.00
