Through a diversified portfolio of commercial real estate assets, the organization owns and manages office, retail, industrial, hospitality, residential, and mixed-use properties across Canada.Known for its entrepreneurial culture, disciplined investment approach, and commitment to operational excellence, the organization actively manages its portfolio to create long-term value through strategic acquisitions, active asset management, and continuous operational improvement.As the business continues to grow and expand its Halifax-based finance and accounting team, this is an exciting opportunity to join an organization where accounting professionals are viewed as trusted business partners, working closely with Property Management, Asset Management, Leasing, and Executive Leadership to support portfolio performance and future growth.Your New Role As the Commercial Property Accountant, you will play an integral role in managing the financial reporting and accounting activities for a portfolio of commercial real estate assets.Working closely with Property Management, Asset Management, Leasing, Development, and Finance teams, you will prepare monthly financial statements, complete month-end reporting, monitor property performance, and provide financial insights that support operational decision-making.You'll be responsible for maintaining accurate accounting records, preparing CAM reconciliations, reviewing lease documentation, monitoring tenant recoveries, supporting budgeting and forecasting activities, and ensuring the integrity of financial reporting across your portfolio.Beyond traditional property accounting, you'll have the opportunity to participate in process improvement initiatives, system enhancements, and portfolio integration projects while gaining exposure to a broad range of commercial real estate asset classes.This is an outstanding opportunity for an accounting professional looking to continue building a long-term career in commercial real estate while working alongside an experienced, collaborative leadership team.What Sets You Apart You are a proactive and detail-oriented accounting professional who enjoys both the technical and analytical aspects of commercial property accounting. You bring approximately two to five years of accounting experience, ideally within commercial real estate, and have experience supporting office, retail, industrial, or mixed-use property portfolios.You're comfortable managing month-end close activities, preparing financial statements, performing reconciliations, handling tenant recoveries, and performing lease-related accounting, while also partnering with operational stakeholders to understand the story behind the numbers.You possess strong Excel skills and experience working with property management accounting systems such as Yardi Voyager, MRI, JD Edwards, Sage, or similar platforms.
