Position Summary
The Payroll Supervisor, in coordination with the Payroll Manager, oversees the accurate and timely processing of payroll for a multi‑site construction organization, including union and non‑union employees. This role helps to ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local regulations as well as collective bargaining agreements (CBAs). The Payroll Supervisor helps lead and mentor the payroll team, supports field operations and project leaders, and drives process improvements to enhance payroll accuracy, efficiency, and data integrity. This is a fully remote position with possible occasional travel to the corporate office.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and mentor payroll staff, providing coaching, training, and performance guidance
- Oversee weekly payroll processing for multi‑state, multi‑site union and non‑union employees
- Review and validate complex payroll transactions, timecards, job classifications, and job‑cost allocations
- Ensure proper interpretation and application of CBAs, prevailing wage rules, fringe benefits, and deductions
- Work with Payroll Manager and team on the preparation and submission of certified payroll, union reporting, and compliance documents
- In coordination with the Payroll Manager, collaborate with HR, Accounting, and Operations to resolve escalated payroll issues and support project labor accuracy
- Work with the Payroll Manager to help guide the team through year‑end activities, audits, reconciliations, and system/process improvements
- Promote standardization and continuous improvement in payroll procedures, workflows, and system utilization
- Maintain confidentiality and ensure adherence to labor laws, tax rules, company policies, and union agreements
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of payroll experience, with strong union payroll expertise in construction or similar industries
- 3+ years of leadership or supervisory experience (team lead, supervisor, or similar)
- Proven experience developing, mentoring, and coaching team members
- Strong understanding of CBAs, prevailing wage laws, multi‑state tax rules, and job‑costed payroll
- Experience with construction payroll systems, timekeeping tools, or ERPs
- High proficiency with Microsoft Excel and payroll software systems
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills
Preferred Experience
- Experience managing a small to mid-size payroll team in a large, multi‑site construction environment
- Involvement in union or government audits and certified payroll reporting
- CPP certification or similar credential
- Leadership and team building

- Ability to manage deadlines in a fast‑paced environment
Physical Work Environment
- Primarily office‑based with extended periods of computer use and sitting
- Frequent use of computers, keyboards, and standard office equipment
- Occasional standing, walking, and movement throughout the office or home office
- Occasional lifting of office materials up to approximately 10-20 pounds
- Noise level is typically quiet to moderate
