JOB SUMMARY

Under general direction, an incumbent of this position is responsible for the preparation of payrolls and the maintenance of payroll records for all employees of Hamilton Health Care System as to the worked hours, rate of pay, deductions and other information necessary for compilation of payrolls. Incumbent assists in the performance of specialized clerical work in connection with processing payrolls and associated periodic reports. This position involves considerable contact with associates, department directors, physicians, executives, as well as Federal, state, and local authorities.  Performs related work tasks as required.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and five (5) years of clerical experience which involved the processing confidential payroll/timekeeping using automated systems.  College education or previous employment may be considered in lieu of work experience.

Licensure: N/A

Experience: Requires five years of previous experience in payroll functions, general ledger bookkeeping, or dealing with confidential employment information. Workday/Time Tracking experience would be a plus.

Skills: Thorough knowledge of modern payroll procedures and employee benefit programs and procedures; good knowledge of Social Security and Retirement Laws; good knowledge of federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations with respect to payroll preparation; familiarity with the principles and practices of office management; ability to use computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, e-mail and database software; ability to make accurate computations; ability to operate a calculator; ability to deal effectively with others; ability to lead the work of others; ability to read, write, speak, understand and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the essential functions of the position; courtesy; tact; good judgment; honesty; integrity; physical condition commensurate with the duties of the position..

PHYSICAL, MENTAL, ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Typical office setting, requires early morning, evening and occasional weekend work to meet deadlines.

Sitting with prolonged concentration to detail.  Handles ledger, journals, documents, and possibly heavy boxes.  Communicates with hospital personnel, views statistical data and prepares detailed reports.  Frequent use of calculator and computer to accurately report complex confidential data to management effectively.
