Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

     The Payroll Specialist is accountable for accurate, timely, and compliant full-cycle payroll processing for 

Canadian non-union employees, while maintaining strong controls, confidentiality, and service to employees 

and leadership.

Responsibilities:

• Process and oversee full-cycle payroll for approximately 200 Canadian salaried and hourly employees.

• Review payroll and time batches for accuracy, completeness, approval status, and proper coding to 

department and job.

• Serve as the primary point of contact for payroll-related inquiries, resolving issues accurately and 

professionally.

• Review RRSP contribution reporting and coordinate required payroll deductions, employer 

contributions, and related reconciliations.

• Maintain payroll information by obtaining, validating, and following up on required employee and 

employment data.

• Update payroll records by reviewing approved changes to tax elections, benefits, deductions, job titles, 

departments, and transfers.

• Prepare payroll reports summarizing earnings, statutory deductions, benefits, leave, taxable benefits, 

and non-taxable payments.

• Calculate, review, and support statutory payroll remittances for employee and employer portions in 

accordance with applicable requirements.

• Reconcile payroll accounts, investigate variances, and resolve discrepancies in partnership with Finance 

and Human Resources.

• Maintain payroll guidelines by working with Human Resources to update payroll policies, procedures, 

and process documentation.

• Update documentation to adapt to new payroll platform

• Support compliance with applicable Canadian payroll, employment standards, tax, and statutory 

reporting requirements by monitoring changes and advising management on required actions.

• Maintain employee confidence and protect payroll operations by safeguarding confidential employee, 

compensation, and payroll data.

• Support month-end close by preparing payroll general ledger outputs, reconciliations, and related 

supporting schedules.

• Prepare ad hoc payroll reporting, analysis, and audit support for leadership, Finance, Human 

Resources, and external stakeholders as required.

Required Skills:

• Full-cycle Canadian payroll processing and payroll operations management.

• Strong data accuracy, data entry controls, and payroll record maintenance.

• Payroll reporting, reconciliations, variance analysis, and general ledger support.

• Knowledge of compensation structures, wage administration, deductions, benefits, and taxable 

benefits.

• Benefits and RRSP payroll administration experience.

• Ability to develop, document, and improve payroll standards, procedures, and internal controls.

• Financial and accounting literacy, including payroll journals, accruals, and account reconciliations.

• Payroll Compliance Professional certification, or equivalent Canadian payroll certification, preferred.

• Working knowledge of Canadian employment standards legislation, payroll tax, and statutory 

remittance requirements.

Preferred Skills:

• Entertainment industry experience preferred

• Payroll cost allocation/split experience

• 5-10+ years of experience

• ADP Experience

Education:

• High School education or equivalent required. 

• BA/BS in applicable field preferred.
