    Job Title:Payroll Specialist, Financial Services
    Reports To:Payroll Manager
    Classification:Paraprofessional (Clerical/Teacher Assistant)
    Wage/Hour Status:Non-exempt
    Days:230
    Salary:See Compensation Plan for Paraprofessional/Administrative Support Staff, Pay Grade 209

    Primary Purpose:Responsible for assisting in processing payroll in accordance with district policies and procedures; assisting district staff on the operations of automated time keeping and payroll financial systems; processing requests for employee information for employees and outside agencies and maintaining employee files in an automated payroll system.
    Qualifications/Skills:

    Education/Certification:

    • High School Diploma or equivalent.

    Special Knowledge/Skills: 

    • Minimum Assessment Standard: Broad knowledge of MS Word and broad knowledge of MS Excel.
    • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
    • Strong organizational skills.
    • Highly effective communication skills.
    • Strong interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to use personal computer, computer software, and 10-key calculator/adding machine.
    • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
    • Strong attention to detail.
    • Ability to work independently.
    • Fluent in English (Speaking and writing).
    • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.

    Experience:

    • Two (2) years payroll experience or educational equivalent preferred.
    • Automated time reporting experience preferred or equivalent.
    Major Duties and
    Responsibilities:

    Payroll Accounting:

    • Accurately calculate hourly and annualized semi-monthly payroll in an automated computer system.
    • Accurately calculate and process pay for employees on medical/personal leave.
    • Calculate, update, and maintain employee accrued leave banks.
    • Calculate final pay for employee resignations, retirements, and terminations.
    • Maintain employee W4 and direct deposit information.
    • Assist with the implementation, maintenance, and training on the Payroll Financial and Time Keeping systems.
    • Assist with balancing and verifying pay, accrual leave days, deductions, and vendor payments.
    • Maintain working knowledge of SBISD policies and procedures.
    • Participate in cross-training of all payroll and benefit functions including terminations, leaves, salary adjustments, and website controls.
    • Assist employees with payroll questions and issues.
    • Works closely to resolve payroll issues with other departments, such as Human Resources, Benefits, Workers Compensation, and Technology Services.

     Other:

    • Work during periods of district closures when necessary.
