Payroll Manager
Traffic Plan is seeking a detail-oriented leader to oversee full-cycle, multi-entity payroll operations and union compliance.
Position Summary
The Payroll Manager is a detail-oriented leader responsible for the full-cycle payroll operations of multiple entities. This role ensures accuracy, tax compliance, and strict adherence to payroll schedules while maintaining the integrity of employee data. In addition to managing daily operations, the Payroll Manager provides critical support to employees and oversees a small team to ensure financial and operational excellence.
Essential Functions
Payroll Operations
- Manage and oversee the full-cycle payroll process for corporate employees across multiple entities.
- Ensure the timely processing of wages, bonuses, benefits, and adjustments.
Compliance & Tax Management
- Ensure strict adherence to tax rules, processing deductions for taxes, benefits, garnishments, and union-related requirements.
Financial Reconciliation
- Reconcile payroll accounts and collaborate closely with the Finance department on general ledger (GL) postings and 401K reporting.
Data Integrity
- Maintain precise payroll records and manage employee data changes (new hires, terminations, benefit deductions) in collaboration with HR.
Auditing & Problem Solving
- Support internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation.
- Identify and resolve payroll-related discrepancies and issues in a timely manner.
Team Leadership
- Manage and develop a payroll team of two direct reports, ensuring high performance and professional growth.
Communication
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employees and managers regarding payroll inquiries, providing effective and clear solutions.
Competencies & Skills
Technical Expertise
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general accounting/payroll software.
Specialized Systems
- Experience with Payroll4Construction and Criterion Payroll is a definite plus.
Regulatory Knowledge
- Deep understanding of benefits administration, garnishments, and union payroll requirements.
Operational Excellence
- Exceptional organizational and time-management skills with a sharp eye for detail and the ability to meet all assigned deadlines.
Environment
This role operates in a professional office setting and routinely uses standard equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly required to talk and hear.
- Frequently required to stand, walk, reach with hands/arms, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
- Occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Lifting: Must frequently lift up to 10 pounds and occasionally move objects up to 25 pounds.
- Vision: Specific requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Education & Experience
- Required: 5+ years of relevant payroll experience.
- Required: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
Schedule
Full-time, Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Travel
No travel is expected.
