- Manage end-to-end payroll processing for multiple dealership locations across several states.
- Ensure timely and accurate processing of weekly, bi-weekly, and semi-monthly payrolls.
- Oversee payroll for: Flat-rate technicians, sales commissions, bonuses and incentive programs, hourly employees and salaried employees
- Interpret day-to-day business objectives and execution of those objectives.
- Create cross-training of the payroll department plans to ensure business continuity.
- Hiring, training, motivating, and coaching employees and ensuring they provide attentive, efficient service to customers. This includes but is not limited to individual and team feedback, facilitate ongoing team and departmental meetings.
- Assessing employee performance and providing helpful feedback and training opportunities that are in line with business and personal development needs.
- Assist in monitoring workload and evaluate direct reports and review the evaluations/development plans of others.
- Manage the payroll team and fill in as needed and prepare work schedules to ensure appropriate coverage.
- Resolving concerns or complaints from employees or management.
- Prepare, distribute, and maintain dealership pay plans in the appropriate database based on guidelines of position. This includes working with leadership and management to ensure pay plan standardization, regulation, and compliance.
- Provide guidance and shares knowledge with colleagues/team members relating to payroll, compliance and FLSA and State and wage and hour regulations.
- Assist in and support in creating annual team objectives.
- Escalate potential payroll or legal concerns to the appropriate level of management.
- Defines standards and reusable approaches within the payroll operational framework.
- Identify process improvement initiatives and define standards for new processes.
- Review and research payroll errors and communicate to management on how to address and seek appropriate approval.
- Implement quality control measures.
- Communicate actively with Accounting, HR, and Operations.
- Oversee audit requests, tax reconciliation, year-end, and W-2 processes.
- Ensure compliance with wage garnishment, wage levies and child support regulations.
- Uses personal device to provide an additional layer of security for company network and site access through multi-factor authentication.
- Maintain advanced knowledge of payroll and HRIS systems to optimize utilization.
- Prepare monthly compensation reporting for managers and executive team.
- Special projects, ad hoc reporting, and additional duties as necessary and assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
The requirements listed below are the minimum degrees, certifications, knowledge, skill, and/or ability required of this position.
- Minimum of 8 to 10 years of multi-state and multi-entity payroll experience.
- Minimum of 8 to10 years of progressively responsible payroll management experience, including direct leadership and supervision of payroll employees.
- Minimum of 5 years of fast-paced customer experience.
- Experience with various payroll systems and implementation.
- Experience in a shared service environment and solid understanding of Payroll and Business cycles.
- Technical writing experience in drafting legally compliant pay plans.
- Knowledge of labor laws, rules & regulations.
- Ability to work with accounting to streamline payroll calculations and communication.
- Excellent computer skills, competent in all Microsoft Office applications, with emphasis on Excel
- Valid driver’s license without restrictions that affects your ability to operate company owned vehicle(s) and ability to maintain a clean driving record.

Preferred
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation through PayrollOrg.
- Automotive dealership payroll experience.
- Experience with dealer management systems (DMS) such as CDK or Reynolds & Reynolds.
