What You'll Do
POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Payroll/Benefits Manager, serves as the primary support and right hand to the Manager in administering the full payroll cycle for all team members of Spokane Tribe Resort & Casino. Responsible for the accurate, timely, and confidential processing of a high-volume, multi-department payroll, including time and attendance, deductions, garnishments, benefits and retirement contributions, and tax compliance. Serves as a knowledgeable backup to the Payroll/Benefits Manager, resolves escalated payroll inquiries, and helps maintain the integrity and compliance of all payroll records and systems.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES
- Promote and support a culture of excellence at Spokane Tribe Resort & Casino by modeling STRC values, delivering exceptional guest service, and upholding the highest standards of professionalism and ethics.
- Provide exceptional guest service throughout all interactions.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable gaming regulations, internal controls, and departmental policies, including requirements of the Gaming Commission and applicable state and federal authorities.
- Process the complete payroll cycle for a high-volume, multi-department workforce: import and audit time and attendance data, calculate wages, overtime, tips/gratuities, and retroactive adjustments, and process scheduled pay runs accurately and on deadline.
- Administer and maintain the timekeeping system; partner with department managers to ensure punches, schedules, and approvals are accurate, and that missed-punch and edit corrections are resolved before each payroll close
- Set up and maintain employee payroll records, including new hires, terminations, status and rate changes, direct deposit, and tax withholding elections, ensuring all changes are properly authorized and entered timely and accurately.
- Calculate, enter, and remit deductions in compliance with applicable requirements and laws.
- Reconcile benefit, retirement, and voluntary deductions to payroll each cycle in coordination with the Payroll/Benefits Manager; research and resolve discrepancies between payroll, benefits enrollments, and carrier or plan records.
- Support payroll tax compliance by verifying withholdings, assisting with reconciliation of quarterly and annual filings, W-2 preparation and distribution, and the integrity of data produced internally and by any external payroll-processing partner.
- .Serve as a knowledgeable backup to the Payroll/Benefits Manager, capable of independently completing full payroll runs and time-sensitive tasks during the Manager’s absence to ensure uninterrupted, on-time pay.
- Respond to and resolve escalated team member payroll inquiries regarding pay, deductions, taxes, and paid time off, researching root causes and processing corrections while maintaining the highest level of confidentiality and professionalism
- .Maintain organized, audit-ready payroll records and prepare reports and reconciliations; support internal and external audits and proactively identify and recommend process and system improvements to the Payroll/Benefits Manager.
- Demonstrate dependability and reliability by maintaining regular, punctual attendance and consistently fulfilling assigned shifts and responsibilities.
- Create, maintain, and facilitate a positive and safe work environment; promote healthy team member relations and report concerns to appropriate personnel.

What You'll Bring
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- College accounting courses preferred but not required. College coursework in accounting, business, or payroll certification (e.g., FPC or CPP), preferred.
- Minimum of two years’ full-cycle payroll processing experience required, including experience processing payroll for a large-volume workforce (high headcount/multi-department, several hundred or more employees).
- Willing and available to work varied schedules, including nights, weekends, holidays, and special events
Skills, Abilities & Competencies
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy under tight, deadline-driven payroll cycles, with the ability to manage confidential information with discretion.
- Communicate effectively with guests, team members, and external contacts. Read, write, and speak English fluently.
- Proficiency with payroll and timekeeping systems and with Microsoft Outlook, Excel (including formulas and data reconciliation), and Word.
- Working knowledge of payroll-related regulations, including wage and hour law, garnishment processing, and payroll tax requirements.
- Excellent time-management, organizational, and math skills.
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
