POSITION SUMMARY:
The Compensation Technician is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll for all district employees in accordance with federal regulations, Pennsylvania Department of Education requirements, district policies, collective bargaining agreements, and PSERS regulations. The position maintains confidential payroll records, processes deductions and tax withholdings, and assists employees with payroll-related questions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Monitors and maintains employee information, salaries, deductions, benefits, and attendance
information for the purpose of ensuring accurate distribution and recording of payroll data and an
audit trail for compliance.
* Computes salaries based on contractual provisions, payroll deductions, and attendance provisions
applicable to different employee groups.
* Processes payroll information and adheres to strict payroll processing deadlines.
* Processes salary calculations for each employee when hired, terminated, sick, disability, on
unpaid leave, etc.
*Integrates data across multiple computer systems for the purpose of ensuring accuracy and
efficiency of payroll processing, including the import and reconciliation of absence data.
* Prepare and submit payroll tax filings on a biweekly, monthly, quarterly and annual basis.
* Prepares all check requests for monies withheld from paychecks and sends wires and checks to appropriate
agencies in a timely manner.
* Process and reconcile PSERS reporting requirements.
* Administers proper reconciliation and timely preparation and delivery of W-2s.
* Respond to employee payroll inquiries in a professional and timely manner.
* Develops and distributes annual employee payroll calendar.
* Recommends changes to payroll procedures to promote accuracy and efficiency.
* Work collaboratively with Human Resources, Finance, and building administrators.
* Assist with audits and provide supporting payroll documentation.
* Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Business & Operations, Assistant
Business Manager or Superintendent.
QUALIFICATIONS:
To successfully perform this position, a person must be able to perform each essential duty
satisfactorily. The qualification requirements listed below represent minimum levels of educational
achievement, training, skill and/or ability necessary.
Required
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Minimum of 2 years payroll, accounting, or business office experience.
3. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
4. Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
5. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
6. Strong communication and customer service skills.
Preferred
1. Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.
2. Experience working in a Pennsylvania public school district.
3. Knowledge of PSERS reporting and school payroll systems.
4. Familiarity with accounting/payroll software such as CSIU, Frontline, Skyward, or similar systems.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
1. Full-Time Position, 12 months per year.
2. Salary and benefits according to the Confidential Secretaries Compensation
12 month, full-time position. Hours: 8:00 am to 4:00 pm (1/2 hour unpaid lunch)
Salary: Commensurate with experience and Confidential Handbook.
Start Date: as soon as possible.
