Introduction


The State of Connecticut, Department of Children and Families (DCF), Fiscal Services Division is seeking to fill a Payroll Clerk position located in our Central Office, 505 Hudson Street, Hartford, CT. 
Position Highlights: The Position The successful candidate in this position will report to a Payroll Officer and have responsibility for preparing biweekly regular, overtime and supplemental payrolls; reviewing employee timecards and timesheets for accuracy and completeness; and posting changes and/or adjustments to master files.  The position will also be responsible for processing a three- shift, 24/7 operation with varying schedules and pay rules.
The DCF Payroll Unit is responsible for providing a full range of payroll and benefit services to over 3,000 bargaining unit, confidential, and managerial employees at all DCF locations throughout the state.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In the Departments of Children and Families, Correction, Developmental Services, Emergency Services and Public Protection, Mental Health and Addiction Services, and Veterans Affairs this class is accountable for preparing and maintaining biweekly regular, overtime and supplemental payrolls for an assigned group of employees and for independently performing various payroll support activities.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Four (4) years of experience in accounts payable, bookkeeping, payroll preparation or clerical work involving finances.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SPECIAL EXPERIENCE

One (1) year of the General Experience must have been as a State of Connecticut Payroll Clerk (class code 6157).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED

College training may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of two (2) years.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Persons having responsibility for supervising or observing the behavior of inmates or custodial individuals will be required to possess a high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certification at the time of appointment.
