What You’ll Own

As our Payroll and Benefits Specialist, you'll help ensure employees are paid accurately and on time while supporting the benefits and leave programs they depend on. You'll process bi-weekly and off-cycle payroll, maintain employee records, reconcile payroll and benefit deductions, and support audits, reporting, and year-end activities.

You'll also administer health and retirement benefits, manage enrollments and qualifying life events, support open enrollment and leave administration, partner with brokers and providers, and help employees navigate questions related to pay, benefits, deductions, and HR systems. Along the way, you'll maintain accurate HRIS data, ensure compliance with payroll and benefit regulations, and help keep our processes organized, accurate, and employee-focused.

Qualifications:

We're looking for someone with several years of payroll and/or benefits administration experience who is comfortable working with HRIS and payroll systems. The ideal candidate has strong analytical and problem-solving skills, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion. Experience with multi-state payroll, ACA administration, and supporting employees across multiple locations is a plus. Strong Excel skills, excellent communication, and a commitment to delivering outstanding customer service are essential. Professional certifications such as CPP, FPC, SHRM-CP, or PHR or a degree in Human Resources, Accounting, Business Administration are a bonus but not required.

A Day, Nicely Balanced

Your morning starts by checking what’s on deck—payroll timelines, benefit updates, and any "quick question" messages from employees. You’ll spend focused time in the HRIS and payroll tools, double-checking details and tying out numbers before anything goes out the door. Midday often brings a mix of conversations: helping someone understand a deduction, walking a new hire through benefit choices, or guiding a teammate through a leave-related update. In the afternoon, you’ll wrap up reconciliations, prep reports, and keep documentation tidy and audit-ready. Most days end with the satisfying feeling that the details are handled—and people can count on you.

The Good Stuff

We believe in taking care of our employees with a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision insurance; life insurance; a 401(k) plan; Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) options; paid time off; employee discounts; and a stocked snack room to help keep you fueled throughout the day. Whether you're planning for the future, supporting your family's well-being, or simply enjoying a few workplace perks, we've got you covered. If you enjoy working with numbers, solving problems, supporting employees, and keeping important details on track, we'd love to hear from you. Apply today and bring your payroll and benefits experience to a team that values accuracy, service, and care. Please see full job description at the Upper Lakes Foods company's career page.
