Department of Revenue is recruiting for an OSBP Tax Auditor (Tax Auditor 1) position. We are looking for a talented, detail-oriented individual to join our Business Division in the Oregon Special Business Programs Section Audit Unit. This position may be headquartered in our Salem office or any of our field office locations across the state; however, the successful candidates may be eligible for in-state hybrid work. Hybrid work consists of performing duties onsite in a standard office environment and working remotely.

What You Will Be Doing
Below is a sampling of job duties. It is not meant to encompass all duties.
Performs audit and filing enforcement activities
Examining commercial activity, receipts, or income, and expense items or deductions, testing records such as single-entity business accounting statements, entry journals, accountant worksheets, and financial documents used in the preparation of a tax return.
Preparing concise and understandable work papers and reports of varied information obtained using a personal computer (word processing / spread sheet / data base software).
May act as an individual auditor or as a supporting auditor on joint audits where more than one auditor works together to perform the audit. As the supporting auditor, works with a senior auditor who provides direction and control over the audit and reviews the work performed.
Conduct interviews of business owners and/or representatives to fully develop and document the audit.
Obtain delinquent returns from non-filing businesses or develop an estimate of taxable activity, receipts, or income of businesses not in compliance using sources of information including delinquent returns, governmental and other public information, and/or statistical analysis.

This Is What You Need To Qualify
Four years of work experience in tax compliance, tax preparation, tax auditing, audit defense, professional accounting, providing law training, or developing tax forms or instructions; OR
An equivalent combination of relevant education, training, and experience.
A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field will substitute for up to three years of experience.
The ideal candidate will possess the following desired skills and attributes:
Be self-motivated and self-disciplined and keep track of deadlines.
Proven ability to work independently displaying a high degree of integrity.
Good time management skills and proven ability to follow through and bring audits or projects to a timely, satisfactory completion.
Proven ability to exhibit sound judgment and decision making when there are variables (i.e. interpreting laws/regulations).
Proven communication skills; including writing reports and face-to-face interactions.

Additional Information
This is a SEIU-represented position. This recruitment may be used to fill additional vacancies as they occur.
The salary listed is the non-PERS qualifying salary range. If the successful candidate is PERS qualifying, the salary range will reflect an additional 6.95%.
