What You'll Do
- Numerical Control (NC) Programmers develop and write programs for numerically controlled machines using engineering specifications, drawings, and models.
- Analyze engineering drawings and models to define configuration of parts and determine type and sequence of machine operations.
- Develop programs for machining and printing parts, tools, or sheet metal on numerically controlled machine tools.
- Make proper manufacturing selections for each part, taking into consideration such factors as speed, type of cutters, feeds, and control system limitations.
- Select program routines for the most effective material removal, best surface finish, and dimensional requirements.
- Test and modify existing part programs for engineering changes or program improvements.
- Maintain configuration control of NC programs used for tool fabrication.
- Act as the technical subject matter expert for programming in the special tooling program.
- Create opportunities to enhance operator skillsets and proficiency with NC programming.
- Train toolmakers in programming.
- Troubleshoot programming issues.
- Maintain and control the configuration management system for all programs.
- Work with operators and engineers to optimize machining fixtures design, and setup.
- Help develop machine work flow process with the team.
- Provide feedback on machines and processes to engineering team to support future technical improvements.
- Support engineering group with Digital Transformation improvement efforts, including Windchill Process plans and ePDM implementation.
- Evaluate existing NC programs, fixtures, tooling, and machining processes and identify and implement process improvements to optimize quality, productivity, and cost.

Department of Energy (DOE) Order 426.2A Requirements
- In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e., High School diploma and 3 years nuclear experience, or a DOE O 426.2A alternative). DOE 426.2A experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities. Preferred Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience directly related to NC machining, or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.
- Thorough knowledge and operating experience with CREO NC software.
- Thorough knowledge and operating experience with Fanuc, Siemens, Mazatrol, and HASS controllers.
- Thorough knowledge and operating experience of 3D printers.
- Knowledge and understanding of NC machine tools.
- Knowledge and understanding of post processers.
- Knowledge and understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Knowledge of machine tool setups and fixturing industry practices.
- Knowledge of industry standards for material removal methods.
- Knowledge of different NC codes such as M-Code and G-Code.
- Knowledge of different file formats of post processed G-Code.
- Knowledge of GPost processors and GPost processor programming.
- Knowledge of industry standard manufacturing flows.
- Knowledge of first article prove out process for a NC program.
- Knowledge of industry standard material removal methods, spindle speed, feed rates, surface footage requirements, and chip load of the cutter.
- Knowledge programing the following machines: lathe, lathe with live tooling, lathe with live tooling y axis, 3 axis mill, 4/5 axis positional only mill and mill turn, 4/5 axis simultaneous mill and mill turn, Sinker Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) and 3/4 axis wire EDM.
- Knowledge and understanding of typical computer applications such as Microsoft Office applications.
- Hands-on experience operating machine tools.
