We are seeking a Northern Branch Controller to serve as the strategic financial partner for our northern operations. This is an impactful, hands-on role where you will act as the primary advisor to branch leadership, directly influencing profitability and operational excellence in a fast-paced environment.

The Opportunity

Based in Grande Prairie, AB, as the Northern Branch Controller, you will bridge the gap between field operations and corporate finance. You’ll spend your time diving into job costing, optimizing working capital, and providing the insights necessary to drive the branch’s success. This is a high-impact, hands-on role perfect for a self-starter who enjoys technical accounting but wants to be close to the business action.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Partnership: Act as the right hand to branch management, providing financial analysis to optimize profitability and collaborating on budgets and forecasts. Project & Cost Oversight: Monitor daily project performance by linking estimates to contractual requirements and tracking actual costs incurred. Financial Integrity: Lead the month-end and year-end closing processes for the branch and ensure rigorous internal controls are maintained. Operational Support: Validate payroll data (time and rates) and provide oversight for expense coding and credit card approvals. Process Innovation: Implement review processes in Great Plains and identify opportunities for automation and increased efficiency. Corporate Liaison: Collaborate with Corporate Finance on Accounts Receivable resolution and audit requirements.

What You Bring

Professional Designation: A CPA (or equivalent) is required for this role. Industry Experience: 5+ years of hands-on accounting experience, ideally within the energy services sector. Technical Proficiency: Advanced Excel skills and a solid grasp of GAAP; experience with Great Plains is a definite asset. Analytical Mindset: You don't just report numbers; you find the "why" behind them and propose solutions. Independence: You are comfortable working as the sole financial lead at the branch level, staying resourceful and self-motivated.
