Our client is seeking an experienced Controller to lead all accounting and financial operations across multiple divisions and funding streams. This role oversees a small accounting team, ensures accurate financial reporting, maintains compliance with regulatory and grant requirements, and provides leadership with timely, actionable financial insights.
The ideal candidate brings strong nonprofit accounting experience, multi-entity or multi-division financial oversight, and hands-on leadership in grant compliance and fund accounting.

Responsibilities:
Financial Leadership
- Supervise and develop two accounting staff, ensuring accuracy and efficiency across all processes.
- Lead daily accounting operations, including AP/AR, credit card approvals, check signing, and internal controls.
Financial Operations
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis for leadership.
- Oversee invoicing, collections, cash management, and management reporting.
- Manage month-end and year-end close, including reconciliations and preparation of GAAP financial statements.
Multi-Division Support
- Oversee pledge tracking, ethics filings, and commission-related financial processes.
- Ensure accurate financial operations across multiple divisions and programs, including membership, partnerships, community initiatives, and special projects.
Grant & Compliance Management
- Manage updates and registrations in SAM.gov.
- Support grant-funded program accounting, including EDA, CJAC, and ARPA-related reporting or closeouts.
- Maintain compliance for federal, state, and local grants, including reporting, documentation, and audit coordination.
Audit, Tax & Special Projects
- Support leadership with ad hoc financial projects and strategic initiatives.
- Assist with budget preparation, event financials, and special campaign accounting.
- Coordinate annual audits and tax filings, including 990‑NEC and related nonprofit reporting.
Qualifications (Must-Haves)
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- 3+ years of supervisory or accounting management experience.
- Experience overseeing multi-division or multi-entity financial operations.
- Demonstrated experience with month-end/year-end close, financial statements, reconciliations, and management reporting.
Preferred Skills:
- CPA preferred.
- Experience in nonprofit accounting, fund accounting, or membership-based organizations.
- Experience with grant reporting, grant compliance, and federal/state funding requirements.
