JOB SUMMARY

Exclusive Collective seeks a Tax Manager to join the Tax team. This role ensures timely and accurate filing of transactional, real property, and personal property tax obligations across domestic and international jurisdictions. The Tax Manager will lead audit defense for transactional taxes, manage the property tax database and appeals processes, and partner with the Tax Department to implement procedures that minimize tax liabilities and reduce risk. The ideal candidate brings deep multi-jurisdictional indirect tax expertise, strong analytical skills, and the ability to advise stakeholders across Accounting, Legal, Finance, and Operations.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Review and supervise monthly sales/use, accommodation/occupancy, and VAT/GST filings — domestic and international

• Prepare domestic transactional tax filings; compile information for foreign filings with in-country providers

• Review and approve monthly accruals, journal entries, and reconciliations for transactional taxes

• Assist Accounting with the monthly close process as it relates to tax accounts

• Monitor tax notices; manage audit defense for transactional taxes from initiation through resolution

• Prepare audit submissions, work papers, and settlement memoranda; negotiate with tax authorities

• Conduct periodic compliance risk assessments and reverse audits to identify exposure and recovery opportunities

• Manage property tax database tracking real and personal property assessments across all locations

• Oversee property tax appeals including filing deadlines, documentation, and external advisor coordination

• Research and apply tax law across income, property, and indirect taxes to company-specific facts

• Advise on tax implications of new products, transactions, and market expansions

• Communicate tax best practices to accounting managers and staff accountants

• Support cross-departmental projects; provide tax training on compliance and emerging issues

EDUCATION, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Education & Experience

• Master's in Accounting, Taxation, or related field preferred; or 6–10 years of directly related experience

• Prior experience in corporate tax, public accounting, or tax consulting strongly preferred

• Demonstrated expertise in multi-state sales/use tax, accommodation/occupancy tax, and VAT/GST

• Proven experience managing tax audits and corresponding directly with tax authorities

Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of indirect tax — sales/use, accommodation/occupancy, VAT/GST, property, and excise tax

• Ability to research and analyze tax statutes, court cases, and application of tax law to facts

• Advanced Excel; experience with Avalara or Vertex and ERP systems (Oracle/NetSuite)

• Familiarity with SOX internal control requirements as they relate to tax

Professional Skills

• Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to translate complex tax concepts for non-tax audiences

• Strong analytical skills; ability to synthesize information under time pressure

• Able to manage multiple time-sensitive projects; self-directed with strong attention to detail

• Collaborative; works effectively across Management, Operations, Legal, Finance, and Accounting

Preferred Qualifications

• CPA, CMI, or CTA designation

• Experience with property tax appeals and international indirect tax (Mexico/Central America VAT, EU VAT, Canadian GST/HST/QST)

• Industry experience in luxury hospitality, real estate, or multi-location service businesses

• Familiarity with RPA or AI-assisted tax tools
