Manager, Payroll

We are currently recruiting a Manager, Payroll to join our People and Culture team.

Reporting to the Director, Employee Experience, you will lead Kindred’s payroll function, ensuring employees and Board members are paid accurately, on time and in compliance with legislative requirements. You will provide leadership to the payroll team while remaining meaningfully connected to full-cycle payroll operations, including complex payroll events, reconciliations, controls and year-end activities.  Working in partnership with Human Resources, Finance, IT and other stakeholders, you will strengthen processes, support system and organizational change, and ensure payroll operates as a trusted, responsive and well-governed function.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, coach and develop the payroll team, creating a collaborative and accountable environment focused on accuracy, continuous learning and responsive employee service.
• Oversee Kindred’s full payroll cycle, including bi-weekly employee payroll, annual incentive payments, quarterly Board payroll, statutory remittances, garnishments, general ledger reporting, year-end processing, employee communications, and T4 and T2200 preparation.
• Review payroll outputs, exceptions and complex transactions, including disability payroll arrangements, salary continuance, final pay calculations and other significant payroll events.
• Strengthen payroll governance through effective controls, reconciliations, segregation of duties, audit readiness, legislative compliance, documentation and business continuity planning, interacting with internal and external auditors. 
• Lead improvements to payroll processes, workflows, information hand-offs and service delivery, using operational measures and root-cause analysis to reduce errors, rework and risk.
• Provide payroll leadership for system configuration, upgrades, testing, integrations and organizational change, partnering with Human Resources, Finance, IT, vendors and other specialists.
• Build trusted relationships across Kindred, providing clear payroll advice, escalating significant risks and ensuring employees and leaders receive knowledgeable, respectful and timely support.

Plus, you bring your qualifications and experience

• Post-secondary education in payroll, accounting, finance, business administration, human resources or a related field.
• Payroll Leadership Professional designation, or Payroll Compliance Professional designation with progress toward PLP.
• Six to eight years of progressive Canadian full-cycle payroll experience, including responsibility for accuracy, compliance and year-end processing.
• People leadership, coaching or formal team-lead experience.
• Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation, remittances, taxable benefits, payroll accounting, reconciliations and audit requirements.
• Experience with a large integrated payroll and HRIS platform, including time and attendance or scheduling; UKG experience is an asset.
• Demonstrated strength in payroll controls, process improvement, testing, change implementation and root-cause analysis.
• Strong judgment, communication, collaboration and employee-service capabilities.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; system selection or implementation experience is an asset.
