Overview

The Manager, Finance – Retail Accounting is responsible for delivering accurate, timely, and compliant financial reporting for Sobeys’ franchise retail locations. You will oversee core accounting processes, strengthen internal controls, and champion operational excellence.

This role requires a strategic finance leader who excels at developing high‑performing teams, driving process improvements, and collaborating across multiple business units. You will help shape the future of retail accounting at Sobeys by harmonizing processes, optimizing systems, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

What You Will Do Financial Reporting & Compliance

Oversee timely and accurate production of retail financial statements Ensure compliance with CEO/CFO certification, Sobeys Inc. accounting policies, and IFRS, including:

Review and sign off on retail accounting processes Approve period financial statements and variance analysis Validate retail working papers

Facilitate internal and external audit requests Safeguard service quality, continuity, retention, and risk mitigation

Process Optimization & Operational Excellence

Drive process improvements and cost‑efficiency initiatives Standardize and harmonize accounting processes Align systems and enhance technologies to strengthen controls and service delivery Execute Service Level Agreements and monitor performance metrics Identify opportunities with Shared Services peers to improve customer service to stores

Leadership & Team Development

Lead, coach, and mentor Senior Accountants, Retail Accountants, and Clerks Foster an engaged, accountable, high‑performance team environment Model continuous learning and professional development Support talent management and succession planning by developing capable team members

Stakeholder Collaboration & Communication

Prepare ad‑hoc analysis and reporting requests Communicate effectively with all levels of management and employees Provide service to Retail Store Operators, Franchisees, District Operators, Merchandising, FP&A, Related Business Ops, and Discount Operations Collaborate with FP&A, Accounting & Control, Accounting Ops & Service, and Audit

Champion a culture of continuous improvement Encourage and recognize innovative ideas from colleagues

What You Have to Offer

A minimum of 8 years experience in accounting or related field University degree in Business and/or diploma (working towards CA, CMA, CGA) Advanced IFRS knowledge and strong understanding of internal controls Leadership experience managing and developing accounting teams Process improvement expertise with a track record of operational optimization Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret complex financial data Finance experience in the retail sector preferred Knowledge of SAP and SAPBW
