This Manager position in the Credit and Fraud Risk Controllership (C&FRC) Controllership organization will play a key role in achieving our goal to protect and assure the integrity of the AXP financial statements and proactively eliminate controllable financial risk. As part of a world-class Controllership group, the C&FRC Controllership organization supports business on credit reserve modeling and provides decision support.
Responsibilities
This Manager position will be part of the Credit and Fraud Risk Controllership team, primarily responsibilities are:
- Play a key role in ensuring Credit Reserves are adequate
- Perform monthly analysis of reserve movements in conjunction with Risk and Finance partners, and prepare monthly internal documentation to explain these changes, including preparation of quarterly presentations for senior management and the Board of Directors. Update these analyses in conjunction with business changes
- Work closely with Risk professionals to develop analytics, providing support and documentation for key conclusions
- Prepare externally disclosed footnotes and regulatory filings for Worldwide AR, Loans and related Reserves for American Express and significant subsidiaries
- Lead projects to perform deep-dives for the significant qualitative reserves to improve control environment.
- Provide Controllership business advisory support for new products, acquisition and divestitures, as well as other company priorities, including risk and control management. This person will also interact regularly with Risk, Risk Finance and technologies in support of review of credit metrics and credit initiatives. As a manager, the incumbent will play an instrumental role in the continuous refinement of processes in these critical areas
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance; CPA/MBA is preferred
- A minimum of 5-7 years of experience of financial analysis on complex and voluminous data is needed.
- Knowledge of US GAAP and experience in Regulatory framework like CCAR in a banking environment
- US GAAP accounting and reporting experience, with Current Expected Credit Loss (CECL) experience
Strong analytical and problem skills are must
Must be able to synthesize complex concepts into understandable business solutions and demonstrate thought leadership in developing value added analyses.
Must be results driven and proactive with the ability to manage multiple work streams and work within tight timelines.
Able to think strategically and have the relationship skills necessary to partner and drive results in a cross-functional team environment.
Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to present on a regular basis to senior management.
- Experience with SQL to run standardized queries and to perform ad hoc data analysis is a plus.
