Job Summary
The Investment Accounting Intern part-time position provides you with a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in investment accounting and financial reporting while working within a large institutional investment environment. As an intern, you will support the Texas PSF Investment Accounting team through account reconciliations, journal entry preparation, financial statement support, accounting research, data validation, and other recurring accounting processes. Throughout the internship, you will gain exposure to month-end and annual financial reporting activities while helping support investment accounting processes and related reporting initiatives.
What You’ll Do
Operations & Data Management
Assist with daily operational tasks and recurring processes, including data compilation and validation, and responding to ad-hoc requests.
Journal Entries & General Ledger Accounting
Prepare and record journal entries in the general ledger, ensuring supporting data is accurately compiled and documented.
Account Reconciliations & Documentation
Perform account reconciliations and assist with the preparation, review, and maintenance of investment-related accounting schedules and supporting documentation.
Financial Reporting & Analysis
Assist in the preparation of financial reporting deliverables, including financial statements, management reports, investment schedules, and supporting analyses.
Accounting Research & Process Improvement
Support accounting research, process improvement initiatives, and other duties as assigned.
What We’re Looking For
Education
You must meet at least one of the following requirements:
Current undergraduate or graduate student majoring in Accounting, Finance, or a related business field with at least 12 semester credit hours (or equivalent) of college-level accounting coursework
Current undergraduate or graduate student not majoring in Accounting, Finance or a related business field with at least 18 semester credit hours (or equivalent) of college-level accounting coursework
Academic Standing: Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (transcripts may be required).
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Microsoft Excel Proficiency: Strong Excel skills, including the ability to organize, analyze, and reconcile financial data to support accounting and financial reporting activities.
Accounting Knowledge: Understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting concepts, with the ability to apply knowledge to journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting activities.
Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to identify and resolve discrepancies in financial information.
Attention to Detail: Ability to demonstrate precision and accuracy when handling numerical data and financial documentation.
Time Management: Effective organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple assignments and meet recurring accounting and financial reporting deadlines within a part-time work schedule.
Communication: Effective written and verbal skills to document work clearly, ask questions, and collaborate with team members.
Adaptability: Ability to adapt to changing priorities and a willingness to learn new skills in a dynamic accounting and financial reporting environment.
(Preferred) Experience with Automation Tools: Familiarity with data analysis and automation tools (e.g., Microsoft Power Query, Power Automate, Power BI).
