Essential Duties
- Prepare monthly plant production reporting.
- Prepare and review monthly journal entries and maintain needed accruals.
- Analyze spending and manufacturing variances of the Maple Leaf Farms plant.
- Reconcile various general ledger accounts and review period end reporting.
- Perform month end closing of the live production software and transfer activity to ERP system general ledger.
- Support development of the Maple Leaf Farms plant budget.
- Support controller in preparation of requested financial information for the annual audit and address associated inquiries, as needed.
- Assist in maintaining and improving accounting systems and procedures.
- Maintain DX Fleet software for the company fueling system.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Job Specifications
Experienced with supporting a monthly financial period close and issuing management reporting of activities at varying intervals using a combination of spreadsheets and accounting software applications; knowledge of the workings in a production environment is helpful. Ability to work effectively across departments and various levels of management and provide exceptional support to the controller overseeing live production and operations.
Skills, Abilities, and Education
- Technical: Understanding of, or ability to quickly learn, basic general and cost accounting principles.
- Technology: Experience with, or ability to learn, various accounting-related software applications - exposure to Microsoft D365, Cat2 and MTech products is a plus. Proficiency in Microsoft Office products including Excel, Outlook PowerPoint and Word required.
- Leadership/Behaviors: Ability to work with minimal supervision, multitask and effectively work with the various departments and levels of management in the organization, as well as in team environments. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills; solid problem-solving skills.
- Language: Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Education: Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Management or other related field; or equivalent, progressive work experience. A Bachelor of Science degree in one of those areas of study is preferred.
- Experience: Three to five years of accounting experience preferred with manufacturing experience a plus.
