Job Description:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative Tax Specialist to support the Canadian Tax team. This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in corporate income tax, indirect tax, tax audits, and compliance within a large, dynamic organization. The successful candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams and external advisors to help ensure compliance with Canadian tax regulations and support continuous process improvements.

Job Type: Contract position for a duration of 18-20 months

Work Location: 1930 Derry Road East, Mississauga, ON (On-Site, NOT REMOTE)

Shift/Hours: Monday- Friday 9AM-5-PM EST

Pay Rate: $35.02/hr

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with the preparation and filing of Canadian tax returns, including corporate income tax, GST/HST, PST/QST, and withholding tax filings.
• Support tax compliance activities by maintaining documentation, monitoring deadlines, and preparing supporting schedules and reconciliations.
• Assist with tax audits, government reviews, tax notices, assessments, refund claims, and information requests from tax authorities.
• Prepare and coordinate responses to information requests, surveys, and statistical reporting requirements from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), Statistics Canada, and other government agencies.
• Conduct tax research and prepare analyses on current and emerging tax issues.
• Collaborate with Finance, Accounting, Payroll, Accounts Payable, Procurement, and Operations teams on tax-related matters.
• Review transactions for indirect tax compliance and identify opportunities for process improvements.
• Support tax reporting, tax accounting, and tax provision activities.
• Participate in tax technology, automation, ERP, and tax engine testing initiatives.
• Maintain organized tax records and documentation to support compliance and audit readiness.
• Monitor developments in Canadian tax legislation and assess potential impacts to the business.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field.
• Minimum 2-3 years of Canadian tax experience in a corporate or public accounting environment.
• Knowledge of corporate income tax, GST/HST, PST/QST, payroll tax, and withholding tax requirements.
• Experience supporting tax audits or tax authority reviews is considered an asset.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; experience with Oracle, SAP, or similar ERP systems is an asset.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across teams.
• CPA designation or active pursuit of CPA certification is considered an asset.
• Bilingual (English/French) is considered an asset.
